ver since TSA's creation after 9/11, passengers willing to undergo a pat-down and hand-search have been able to fly without ID. This rarely discussed, and little used right was documented by the courts in Gilmore v. Gonzales. While mostly just a way to assert your rights, the technique often had the added benefit of allowing the traveler to skip to the front of the security line.

With little warning, on Thursday, TSA announced a new change in policy. Passengers who refuse to show ID, citing the rights, will be refused entry to the boarding area. Passengers who claim to have lost or forgotten their ID will still be allowed to fly.

This new rule seems to only apply to terrorists that are unable to lie, while at the same time, massively cutting into the rights of passengers.

Soaring gas prices make refusing to fly a difficult choice. If I had to go to Texas for instance, it would cost me about $400 in gas one way, not to mention all the meals and tolls along the way.

Now, if I did choose to fly, I would have to submit to all sorts of scrutiny and voluntarily give up many of my rights, which I just won't do. It's almost as if they are trying to make it impossible for people like me to travel about the country.

interestingly, though, airline fares are down significantly.

Airfares should have tripled by now. That's been making me wonder of late. When things go exactly the opposite way they should, treachery is usually afoot.

Subsidized by the tourism industry? Other cities might be taking a lesson from Las Vegas. Those flights have always been cheap.

Why not spend a few hundred dollars, when that sucker will drop $1000+?
