Reagan is one of 24 members on the board and is listed as an 'Alumni Parent'. ndhs.org/ndhs.php?ids=926 On their mission statement, the school's website states: 'The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart. While we prepare useful citizens for society, we shall likewise do our utmost to prepare citizens for eternal life." ndhs.org/ndhs.php?ids=931 On Monday June 16th, Clear Channel radio station KFI AM 640 Los Angeles, in their 8:30AM News hour, covered the story of radio talk show host Michael Reagan being investigated by the FBI for making death threats on his radio show, against anti-war activist Mark Dice. ( markdice.com ) Dice, who heads a Christian group called 'The Resistance' based in San Diego, had recently appeared on the FOX News Network discussing his group's campaign to send dvds to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan outlining reasons why they should oppose the war: watch video: youtube.com/watch?v=l-FwDEuVp78 Michael Reagan subsequently called for the assassination of Mark Dice on his nationally syndicated radio show: Watch: youtube.com/watch?v=6N4V3imUv2k Dice immediately issued a press release denouncing the remarks, filed a criminal complaint with the FBI against Reagan, and called for his immediate firing. On their website, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Catechism document on Intentional homicide states: >>www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm 2268 The fifth commandment forbids direct and intentional killing as gravely sinful. The murderer and those who cooperate voluntarily in murder commit a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance. [69] Infanticide, [70] fratricide, parricide, and the murder of a spouse are especially grave crimes by reason of the natural bonds which they break. Concern for eugenics or public health cannot justify any murder, even if commanded by public authority. 2269 The fifth commandment forbids doing anything with the intention of indirectly bringing about a person's death. The moral law prohibits exposing someone to mortal danger without grave reason, as well as refusing assistance to a person in danger. Whether or not Americans are satisfied with the government's investigation into 9/11 ( patriotsquestion911.com ) or whether they approve of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is largely inconsequential to this e-mail, although I must point out that the Catholic church, including Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul II before him, as well as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, have spoken out against the current wars. Also, these undeclared wars do not meet the requirements for the 'Just War Doctrine' outlined in our Catechism. In the homily at Mass yesterday, the priest reiterated how Jesus said four times in the Gospel not to be afraid. The priest explained that we must not be afraid to stand up and challenge authority. People of all faiths, not just Catholics, in California and across the world, are working towards peace and will not be belittled, devalued and threatened. We stand behind Mark Dice and insist on respect for all human life. For a person such as Reagan who regularly advocates such outrageous racial and religous hatred as well as calls for murderous threats and genocide, it is completely unacceptable for him to hold a position of authority, prestige and influence over 1200 Catholic school students and their education. I and others of faith join together in this call for the immediate removal of Michael Reagan from the Board of Directors of Notre Dame Catholic High School in Sherman Oaks CA. This Thursday, June 26th we will be presenting an official petition to you, your school's president Br. William Nick CSC, Principal Stephanie Connnely, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Cardinal Roger Mahony, as well as The Holy Cross Institute, whose home is at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.
