Title: Agents can randomly seize travelers' laptops or PDAs

WASHINGTON - Bill Hogan was returning home from Germany in February when a customs agent at Washington Dulles International Airport pulled him aside. He could re-enter the country, she told him. But his laptop could not.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents said he had been chosen for "random inspection of electronic media," and kept his computer for about two weeks, recalled Hogan, 55, a freelance journalist from Falls Church, Va.

Though it was a spare computer that had little important information, Hogan felt violated.

"It's not an inspection. It's a seizure," he said. "What do they do with it? I assume they just copy everything."

fly privately, if at all

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

This crap is pure harrassment as it serves no useful purpose.

If somebody wanted to get sensitive electronic data into the country, there are MUCH easier and safer ways of doing it other than carrying it on a laptop.

"The real deal is this: the ‘royalty’ controlling the court, the ones with the power, the ones with the ability to make a difference, with the ability to change our course, the ones who will live in infamy if we pass the tipping points, are the captains of industry, CEOs in fossil fuel companies such as EXXON/Mobil, automobile manufacturers, utilities, all of the leaders who have placed short-term profit above the fate of the planet and the well-being of our children." - James Hansen

Privacy is a privilege, not a right.

If you want privacy you must encrypt what you want to remain private. And always, always keep more than 2 backup copies of important data in different locations.

God is always good!

The idiots who write up these laws don't know what the heck they are doing. They might actually think this does help secure the USA. They aren't that bright.

That was my 1st thought. Or, remove the hard drive & FedEx it to your next destination before boarding.

There is no need to FedEx the data. Store it on a website or upload it directly to your home computer.

Sen. Christopher Bond, R-Mo., says

...lawsuits could still be pursued against the government by those who believe the program itself is illegal. But they said even if those suits were ultimately successful, they would have no impact on the culpability of the phone companies.

"I'm not here to say that the government is always right, but when the government tells you to do something, I'm sure you would all agree that I think you all recognize that is something you need to do," Bond said.

Realistically, you can not sue the government. The government judges will dismiss the cases on some pretense.

That's exactly what he was saying. Hire a lawyer, spend your money, get on the government's sh*t list, go ahead.... but you won't accomplish anything because the supreme soviet cannot be challenged by the people.

Sadly 95 percent of the public does not know that and 80 percent of those would close their eyes and mind and refuse to look at the evidence if you showed to them. And, if they did, they would disagree with your anti-government ways for showing them the facts.

I refuse to fly anymore. If I ever have to fly to Europe or Asia then I will drive to Canada and fly from there. Fuck the government and the scum that work for it.

Interesting - your response. I went to CNN 360 and put a post on the 360 blog after I heard them mention the faith based initiative thing.... Obama now supports bush's fiasco. All I posted was info about the faith based initiative, how Rev Moon is making big bucks from it and that people should search/google the words Rev Moon, bush, messiah and such. Both my posts were held for moderation instead of allowing them to appear. I sent Anderson Cooper an email mentioning that I guess there really isn't any difference between FOX and CNN. What has happened to our country?

CNN 360. Here is what I see.

Noticed the issue of faith based initiatives was mentioned. Anybody who supports the current program doesn’t have a clue to who is benefitting from it. Bush, a Christian? When pigs fly.

Google the following things and you will see Bush is associated with a “false messiah”

Sun Myung Moon Crowned Messiah in Washington, D.C.

In one of those truly bizarre things that you really have to see to believe, multimillionaire “Reverend” Sun Myung Moon was crowned messiah on March 13, 2004 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. Attending the ceremony were apparently seventy-one congressmen, including two senators, dozens of ambassadors to the United States, and various other figures from the religious and political establishments of the nation. Rev. Moon runs the ‘Unification Church’ cult, as well as owning the faux conservative Washington Times and a number of other media outlets worldwide.

Bush’s world tour Rev Moon.

The greatest trick ever played on people of Christian faith is Bush and his family convincing them he is a true Christian.

Anderson, why is the issue of the relationship of the Bush family and the Rev Moon who was declared the “new messiah” in 2004 in Washington DC never discussed on TV? Truth too sensitive?
