U.S. to Ban Mexican Food Imports in Salmonella Probe, CNN Says

By Nancy Kercheval

July 5 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. will ban Mexican imports of ingredients commonly used in foods such as salsa as it seeks the source of a salmonella outbreak, Cable News Network said, citing former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.

Health inspectors will stop shipments of cilantro, jalapeno peppers, Serrano peppers, scallions and bulb onions from entering the U.S. on July 7, Thompson told CNN. The items will be tested for salmonella and E.coli.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration originally theorized that tomatoes were the source of the salmonella poisoning, which has afflicted 943 people in 40 states, the District of Columbia and Canada, CNN said, citing U.S. Centers for Disease Control statistics.

The outbreak has cost tomato growers about $450 million, Thompson told CNN. He is a partner in Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, according to the law firm's Web site.

Cyni,

The PTB have deemed America too white, too successful and too bright. Only an influx of OTHERS will bring the IQ mean average to an acceptable level of mediocrity.

JUST SAY NO...TO MEX I CO.

And someone noted here that the restaurant illnesses (spit in gringo's food, shit on hands and make gringo's food) were an undeclared form of Bio-warfare by militant mexicans. I agree. Now those same folks are doing that and picking your food, too.

The private farms and the Mennonite stands are doing a booming business here in PA. We haven't bought store bought produce in more than a month. Things are as they should be.

Indeed. It's the best time of the year for locally grown produce. We have Amish and Mennonite stores open all year in the area. I'm waiting for the big maters.

Long ago years spent some time in Mexico.

Ninety per cent filth, ten per cent filthy rich. Crime of all sorts was a way of life. The police were the worst. Work ethic was non existent, siesta and drink were friends.
