PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - Presidential candidate John McCain, who once sang in jest about bombing Iran, on Tuesday reacted to a report of rising U.S. cigarette exports to the country by saying it may be "a way of killing 'em."

McCain, known for acerbic comments and for sometimes firing verbally from the hip, was responding to a report that U.S. exports to Iran rose tenfold during President George W. Bush's term in office despite hostility between the two states.

A rise in cigarette sales was a big part of that, according to an Associated Press analysis of seven years of U.S. trade figures.

"Maybe that's a way of killing 'em," McCain said to reporters during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. "I meant that as a joke, as a person who hasn't had a cigarette in 28 years, 29 years," he added, laughing.

He declined further comment on the report.

At a campaign meeting in South Carolina last year the Arizona senator, asked if there is a plan to attack Iran, began his answer with a variation on the lyrics of a well-known pop song, Barbara Ann.

"You know that old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran?" he said, then sang "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" before discussing what he considered Iran's serious threat to Israel and international security.

Tension is high between the two countries over Iran's nuclear program, which Washington says is aimed at making an atomic bomb but Tehran says is for generating energy. There has been media speculation of a possible U.S. or Israeli military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

"If you liked Bush, you'll love McCain!"

"McCain: Bush on uppers."

"McCain: First he'll finish off Iran. Then he'll finish off America."

Only a monster laughs about the killing of innocents.

This nutcase lives to kill. He just can't wait to pile high the corpses of dead Iranians. To give him the power of the presidency would be like releasing a man- eating tiger into a schoolyard full of children playing. To vote for him is to commit manslaughter. It might even make one an accessory to murder before the fact.

Check out my blog, America, the Bushieful.

He is freepin' nuts.

Yes, he is.

The topic of racial variation is admittedly disturbing, and in an ideal world might be passed over in silence, but accusations against whites have made such discretion impossible. The right of the accused to present his case includes the right to raise issues that distress his accuser. A plaintiff demanding damages for a broken leg cannot ask at the same time that his leg not be talked about, nor take offense when the defendant presents evidence that the injury was congenital. By claiming harm he opens up the question of why his leg is game. Claiming racial harm has opened the topic of racial differences.

He strikes me as being ignorant and distanced from reality. Quick to please the crowd with his humor that might appeal to other unenlightened ones. I guess he's just a stupid puppet.

I hope he doesn't win anyway and think it's unlikely he will.

mcEvil's got the same warped sense of humor that bush does--i.e. joking about Karla Faye Tucker's execution and looking for WMDs under the dais.

Yes to all you said.

McCain is the GOP's throw away candidate because the 2 party fraud machinery has decided that the 2008 election is Hillary's year...err, oops...I meant to say...2008 is Michelle's year...whatever, you get the picture...

McCain is the quintessential over-the-top nutball loser Johnny came last in the race - even Junior beat him out in the past - what does that tell you?

Bush and McCain's personalities are alike in a lot of ways.

McCain really is just an older and crazier Bush, which is why I still don't understand why so many Bushbots hated him up until he became the official GOP nominee.

Both Bush and McCain are mediocrities that got handed the keys to influence and power through family connections, both are ignorant about the outside world (and, what's really sad, they're proud of their ignorance), and both of them are warmongers who will antagonize the rest of the world and bankrupt this country.

And you know what the worst part of it is? The only so-called "alternative" to all this is Barack Obama.

"McCain: World War Three will be good for the economy!"

That's the neoconservative economic philosophy in a nutshell.

Making defense contractors filthy rich (either with taxpayer money, or by worthless printed currency created out of thin air) while the rest of the country goes bankrupt is their idea of sound economic policy.
