Commissioner Finds Voodoo Doll With Picture Of Self Near Mailbox
Woman Has Also Received Letters, Deputies Say DELTONA, Fla. -- A 5-inch voodoo doll with a picture of a Central Florida city commissioner's face attached to it and several pins stuck in the doll's body was left near her mailbox.
Zenaida Denizac, of Deltona, and her husband discovered the doll at about 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a Volusia County sheriff's report.
Denizac told sheriff's deputies that she has also received several anonymous letters criticizing her work as president of the Volusia County Hispanic Association, the report said. She said the letters also criticized her job as city commissioner, according to the sheriff's report.
"I feel totally violated. Somebody came into my property," said a shaken Denizac told the Daytona Beach News Journal Monday afternoon. "For me it’s very difficult."
Denizac, who is a teacher at Pine Ridge High School, was elected to the Deltona City Commission, District 1, in November 2005, according to the city of Deltona Web site.
She was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and moved to Deltona in 1986, according to the city's Web site.
Denizac received her masters' degree in educational leadership from Nova University and her bachelor's degree in education from Antillian College, the city's Web site said.
Sheriff's deputies are investigating the unusual incident.
