KABUL, Afghanistan - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says the situation in Afghanistan is "precarious" and "urgent."

In an interview broadcast Sunday during his first trip to Afghanistan, Obama said the U.S. needs to start planning now to send in more troops. He has called for an additional one to two brigades — or about 7,000 troops — to be sent to Afghanistan to help counter a resurgent Taliban and quell rising violence.

Obama told CBS News that Afghanistan has to be the central focus in the fight against terrorists.

He said the Bush administration allowed itself to be distracted by a "war of choice" but now is the time to correct the mistake.

Obama also sat down with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and pledged continued aid to the country.

Having seen the girls behind the curtain, this orchestrated "GWOT" transition is all the more entertaining. ;-)

Candidates: More troops to Afghanistan, Obama lays out foreign policy strategy

From: AP Worldstream

Date: July 15, 2008

Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain _ in a rare moment of agreement on foreign policy _ called in separate speeches Tuesday for thousands more American troops to fight growing violence in Afghanistan, but they gave no ground on their profound differences about the Iraq war.

As Obama prepared to travel to both countries, he laid out a five-point foreign policy strategy, its top goal still being the withdrawal of most American forces from Iraq within 16 months of taking office. That, he said, would free troops _ as many as 7,000 _ to fight al-Qaida and Taliban militants in Afghanistan.

The troops will continue to die, just in another country.

So to Obama, a "war of choice" is just a "distraction," a "mistake."

More Kool-Aid for his brain-dead followers to drink.

I've already said too much.
