Colfax Avenue, Suite 500 Denver, CO 80202 Editor: On August 1, you reported that Denver hit 19 straight days with temperatures over 90 degrees, thus breaking a record. This record was not set in 2007 or 2006, but rather in 1874 and again in 1901. The earth may well be warming at this time but, based on your article, traditional global warming arguments dont hold up. In 1901, there were far fewer people, much less polluting industry and almost no automobiles. In 1874, there were even fewer people, even less polluting industry and Henry Ford was 11 years old. Hence, we need to find another explanation for Denvers heat wave. The more likely cause is that the earths temperature is like a sine wave. It goes up and down and up and down and up and down over time. I remember hearing in the early 1970s that rampant industrialism was going to create a canopy of smog over the earth that would block out the sun and cause global temperatures to plummet. Which is it? Will our reckless lifestyle and our love affair with the automobile cause us to roast or freeze to death? And what will they be scaring us with in 2038? Recently, I read that both Mars and Jupiter are undergoing planetary warming. Is this also caused by too many aerosol cans and SUVs? Let us not go on Amish cultural mode and succumb to all manner of Marxist economic policies because of the fear tactics of politically motivated junk science. Douglas F. Bravo! Hear hear!! ;-)
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.Samuel Adams
Excellent - thanks, Doug.
That is a fine article.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. |
