I was on my way back from the store and waiting at a stoplight and next to me was a brand spanking new champagne colored FLEETWOOD DISCOVERY RV (Starting at $200,760*) with a tow bar pulling a late model champagne colored FORD EXPLORER, and they both had Delaware vanity plates.

The RV plate was "PRAIZ HM" and the EXPLORER's WAS "PRAZ HM"

The RV had a Club Lazydays plate on the back.

So, at a time when fuel prices are forcing trucking and delivery companies and airlines under and America is teetering on the brink of things too terrible to contemplate, we have at least "friend o' GAWD" out there whose faith is unshakable. Yep, GAWD Almighty helped him accrue all that wealth (He sent an angel in the middle of the night who said, Invest in private prisons for profit!" and, he did!) and, he's determined to reap the bountiful harvest of that faith. And, to let us sinners know that it pays to publicly praise him from who all blessings flow!

I just hope that he isn't the only one to show up at a CLub Lazydays RV site. Most folks may be too ashamed of such an ostentatious display of wealth and fuel gluttony at a time like this. But, then again, most aren't shielded by the cross, the sword and the Arm Of The Lord!

But, I have to wonder, if this conspicuous consumer of GAWD's blessings wakes up and finds his paper wealth worthless and his retirement dream shattered, will he blame GAWD? I mean, if he blames Bush that would be the same as blaming The Almighty, right?

If God has been this good to him, then surely he has passed on many blessings via helping the poor and afflicted and less fortunate among us. We can only hope so.

And if he hasn't/doesn't, then God will take care of him in His own way and in His own time. When that occurs, we wouldn't want to be jealous or envious of this guy's playthings--at least I wouldn't. To paraphrase, "If you've done it to the lesser among you, you've essentially done it to Me" comes to mind....and from the One who said the poor will always be with us.

Apparently I should have taken a picture, so, you wouldn't feel obliged to defend something that was just God damned obscene!

And, those who know me know that I don't give a damn about material wealth.

And, I wouldn't be caught dead in a white Rolls like the one I saw Michael Jackson in years ago. I'm more attuned to ABBA's philosophy. I've never even worn pricey jewelry (that I received from admirers) other than a Timex watch and wedding ring, even when I was a well paid glam musician.

But, think of it as jealousy if you must be defensive about it.

We have another winner!

Of course he would have had his "Combination Rig For Christ" dipped in gold but, he gave most of his wealth to poor, little brown people without anyone knowing about his Christian generosity! ;)

American Economist Thorsten Veblen invented a couple terms for people like this. Most people have heard at least the first one:

Conspicuous Consumption.

The other I think is just as telling:

Pecuniary Emulation.

People who, falsely, believe that ostentatious displays of petty material wealth somehow imparts to them a specialness not found in the little people.

I do not begrudge success to anyone but tasteless displays, and false idols of materialism, are not exactly spiritual values.

No man is so rich as the man who is content with what he has. No man is so poor as the man who always wants more.

Exactly. All the happiness you will ever have lies within the spirit which you are.

The true meaning of a happy life IS NOT "buy a Mercedes".

If I ever buy a Mercedes it will be because they are sturdy reliable automobiles. However, I probably would not buy one because I don't care to be associated with the types of people who presently buy them.

Now a Jaguar is another matter. It is interesting to note the differences between people and their cars. Mercedes drivers are, almost invariably, solid, humorless, and pretentious. Jaguar drivers are either reserved or content.

I sometimes wonder what kind of a sad shallow world that people who feel compelled to follow the herd live in? All I know is I don't want to join them.

Interesting you say that. The E class is a reliable work horse of the luxury car market, whereas Jags are very pretty but often unreliable, so imo Jags could be viewed as the more frivolous ostentatious purchase.

Don't get me wrong - I think Jags are beautiful to look at, but one needs to have alot of $ and patience to keep a Jag running.

After making this criticism about the Jag, I shoud 'fess up that I'd love to own a Range Rover - ha, ha ...

Ah, Jaguars! Many years ago I had a clerk in my office who had one of the Jags that looked like a box of matches (?)......how I loved it when Mary drove to go do lunch. Fantastic little car. I'd still like to have one of them myself.
