The United States on Monday expressed solidarity with Georgia and warned Russia against continued "aggression" over the South Ossetia conflict, US Vice President Dick Cheney's spokeswoman said.

Cheney made his remarks in a telephone conversation with Georgian President President Mikheil Saakashvili on Sunday afternoon, according to the statement received in Beijing, where President George W. Bush is attending the Olympics.

"The Vice President praised President Saakashvili for his government's restraint, offers of cease-fire, and disengagement of Georgian forces from the zone of conflict in the South Ossetian region of the country," said the statement from Cheney's spokeswoman, Lee Anne McBride.

"The Vice President told President Saakashvili that Russian aggression must not go unanswered, and that its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States, as well as the broader international community."

Russian planes bombed a military target in the suburbs of the Georgian capital Tbilisi early on Monday, an interior ministry spokesman told AFP after an explosion was heard in the centre of the city.

The explosion was heard around 4:40 am (0040 GMT).

Coming from the man who boldly lied on "Meet The Press" saying that we knew exactly where Saddam's nonexistent WMD's were.

Cheney has about as much credibility on this as Pee Wee Herman (with apologies to Pee Wee for associating him with Deadeye Dick).

Becuase Cheney's comments were on par with McCain saying that this problem has large consequences for the Euro-Atlantic alliance (disregarding that Georgia belongs to neither geographic locale), I noticed again that the media is doing a piss poor job of finding the Russians bombing schools, hospitals, passenger trains, medical personnel helping people on passenger trains, wedding parties and refugee convoys, because it seems that they are largely concentrating on military targets. We can't seem to bomb anywhere without hitting any of those other things, and since we are the superlative hyperpower indispensible nation, who always mistakenly hits those areas, one would think that the Russians would be hitting them more than we do. Maybe the MSM can doctor up some of those pics of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, complete with the rolling of baby incubators into oncoming traffic?
