Medvedev Send to friend | Print version Dmitry Medvedev (left) and Henry Kissinger (AFP photo, RIA Novosti, Dmitry Astakhov)June 17, 2008, 18:06 Medvedev and Kissinger find it's good to talk Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has held talks with the former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Moscow, with relations between the two countries and their future development topping the agenda.

Mr Kissinger has great experience in diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Russia, having met with Russia's former president Vladimir Putin many times. Besides the meeting with the President, he is also scheduled to have talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The USA’s plans to build radar bases in Eastern Europe are sure to be discussed by Kissinger and Lavrov, as well as democracy in Russia, which has been criticised by President George Bush and the current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. However, Kissinger is already on record as saying that Russia does not need to stick to a U.S. type of democracy and is free to go its own democratic way.

After talks with Dmitry Medvedev, the former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has also had an informal meeting with Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

I wish Mr. Kissinger would retire from public life and concentrate on his new memoirs.

As the crisis between Georgia and Russia continued this week, we gathered different perspectives on the issue. Here are my interviews with Russia's ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin and two top American experts on the country - Robert Kagan of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Stephen Sestanovich of the Council on Foreign Relations.
