I've been predicting for many months that Obama was going to pick a very white boy and McCain was going to pick a woman. I was wrong on the identities. I thought Obama's choice was going to be Webb and McCain's was going to be Condi. So, I was wrong on the details but on the spot on the general principles. I am more confident that McCain is going to lose now than I was yesterday.

I did not read any of your predictions as you describe them today. Whatever. Obama would never pick Webb - come on - Webb was 10 times smarter and that much less Marxist than Obama. Obama could not tolerate such a reminder of his weaknesses by picking Webb. Biden does not threaten or outshine Obama so from Barack's perspective, Biden is a safe bet. Plus Biden is a bigtime war monger for Izzy, solidifying all those Muslim-uneasy, black-leery Jewish votes in Florida and Ohio etc.

Sarah Palin's son, Track, left on Tuesday for infantry boot camp in Fort Benning, Ga. The 18-year-old enlisted last week on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Track is the oldest of Palin's four children and her only son. "I support my son's independence, and I am proud of his decision because he made it for the right reasons -- to serve his country," Palin said. In July, Palin went to Kuwait where she visited the Alaska Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 297th Infantry, a unit that is made up of about 575 Alaska men and women. She said she wanted an up-close look at the sacrifices made by Alaska-based troops in the Middle East so she accepted the offer of a two-day tour sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. Ultimately, it may have been a closer look at what awaits Track. Palin said she has come to terms with the idea that Track could be deployed next year to Iraq, Kuwait or Afghanistan, where thousands of U.S. troops are based. Last week President Bush approved a gradual reduction of U.S. forces, which stand at the highest level of the war, about 168,000 troops. Palin has since given birth to a second son, who has Down's. She had amnio and knew that her fetus was affected with Down's but chose not to abort.

Also as swarthy pointed out - and from the perspective of McCain's campaign management - Palin's husband is a fisherman and union activist, so Palin on McCain's ticket may eat into Obama's union bloc voter base.

I think she's gonna shine in the debates with Biden. Wasn't going to watch her speech, expected boilerplate, but did and came away impressed, she is a very, very good speaker. Obie should be happy he doesn't have to debate her.
Public Safety Commissioner dismissal controversy Governor Palin is currently under investigation by an independent investigator hired by a legislative panel to determine if she abused her power when firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.
