that guy was creepy bothering that young girl. I actually met and asked these westboro baptist folks questions when i was there. they actually seemed very nice and rational. i'll try to post it by next week.
Doesn't Christianity teach "Hate the sin, but love the sinner"? I could see these people holding signs saying "God Hates Sin", but where does it say in the bible that God hates sinners? Isn't their theology just a bit misguided?
Not that it matters to me, since I personally believe that all religions are crap anyways. But it's fun to hoist the self-righteous upon their own petards...

Yes I agree that they are misguided, but they werent the radical foaming at the mouth types you'd expect from reading press reports about them over the years.
a few bystander women came up and started arguing with them, saying 'HOW DARE YOU', etc. the two sides bantered back and forth and i asked the 2 women, who were Christian, if they believed in hell. they hesitantly said yes after i pressed them on it. then i asked, are there people who are sent to hell. and i asked them if there i such a thing as sin, and asked, are unrepentant sinners sent to hell.
I'm not even protestant, I'm Catholic, so these folks would surely disagree with me, too. but anyway it was interesting.
the fact that congress actually passed a law limiting protests in direct response to this baptist church is so ridiculous. when that happened, i read the congresssional testimony and all the lawmakers remarked how the church's views were 'radical' and 'offensive'. and 'extreme', none of which is justification for banning their speech!
