Obama's verbal slip fuels his critics

Christina Bellantoni

Sunday, September 7, 2008

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sen. Barack Obama's foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, "my Muslim faith."

The three words -- immediately corrected -- were during an exchange with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," when he was trying to criticize the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim.

But illustrating the difficulty of preventing false rumors about his faith from spreading, anti-Obama groups within one hour of the interview had sliced it out of context and were sending it around via email. They also were blogging about it.

Mr. Obama, who is a Christian and often proudly speaks about how his faith has influenced his public service, said he finds it "deeply offensive" that there are efforts "coming out of the Republican camp to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith."

The exchange came after Mr. Obama said that Republicans are attempting to scare voters by suggesting he is not Christian, which McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said was "cynical."

Asked about it on ABC, Mr. Obama said, "These guys love to throw a rock and hide their hand."

"The McCain campaign has never suggested you have Muslim connections," said Mr. Stephanopoulos, who repeatedly interrupted Mr. Obama during the interview.

"I don't think that when you look at what is being promulgated on Fox News, let's say, and Republican commentators who are closely allied to these folks," Mr Obama responded, and Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted: "But John McCain said that's wrong."

Mr. Obama noted that when Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin "was forced" to talk about her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, he issued a forceful statement to reporters that the line of inquiry was "off limits." But he said the McCain campaign tried to tie him to "liberal blogs that support Obama" and are "attacking Governor Palin."

"Let's not play games," he said. "What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come."

Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted with, "Christian faith."

"My Christian faith," Mr. Obama said quickly. "Well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim. And I think that his campaign's upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith -- something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time."

Asked to comment on the accidental misstatement illustrating the difficulty of the issue, Obama spokesman Bill Burton offered this comment: "I'm not surprised that the only outlet doing this story is The Washington Times."

The fact that being a "Muslim" is a slur in America is going to make it increasingly difficult to convince the Persian Gulf petrostates financing our federal debt to continue to do so.

At last report there were about 1.5 billion nominal Muslims in the world. I'd say a sane nation would find a modus vivendi with them, particularly since most of the "terrorists" are actually CIA or Israeli Mossad-trained black ops guys.

Yes- apparently for entire swaths of boobs- calling an online opponent a Moooslim is an argument winner. Indeed- anything said by a moooslim is a lie and inadmissible in arguments with reichwingers. Any sign of identifying with a moooslim in any way - even basic human empathy- is proof of one being in league with "them".

The way reichwingers use the term "Muslim" is no different from the Nazi use of "Jew" actually.

Burka,

Wasn't it Obama who said he was a Muslim, after saying he wasn't? Or is it he said he wasn't before saying he was? Anyway, it's all on You Tube, I'm sure you saw it. And no it isn't a big deal other than it tends to inject further doubt in everything the brother says.

That is because of the PsyOps that has been going 24/7 to sell that meme. It is nothing more than a psychological plant to influence and control the perceptions and emotions of the American Sheeple.

The reality is, I am convinced, that most of the people selling this idea are Israel supporters i.e., ethnic Jews - Zionists - (mostly communists and atheists in reality - and Occultists/Satanists). As well you have the purchased Christian Kooks who are selling the perversion of "Revelations" to sell "The Rupture" and Zionism to the Christian SUCKERS. All the while supporting, actively or by acquiescence, criminality and foul inhumanity that is an absolutely antithetical to alleged Christian teachings. As for the NeoTrotskyCons look at the top NeoTrotskyCons - Wolfowitz, Perle, Zakheim, et. al., .... The push is purely and simply a political manipulation in order to get the U.S. to remove the roadblocks to Israel's absolute dominance in the Middle East and the establishment of Eretz Y'srael (Greater Israel). Of course in turn Israel will be betrayed by the criminals at the very top - once they have served their use.

I forgot you were posting on here too, burke! I left Libertypost for good - only because I was restricted on the number of posts a day I could do. Some liberty!

As I wrote before on this Obama is a Muslim slime - and I say this as not supporting either scumbag candidate to lead the scumbag USA govt -

If Obama is a Muslim - he has not been seen in a mosque for decades. So he must be a sucky Muslim.

What do these types think Obama will do if selected? Force convert Americans to Islam? Make polygamy legal? I mean do they follow their own goofy arguments to their final conclusion? Will he - once in office - order the US military to hunt down Christians who won't convert to Islam following a presidential decree? Are these guys retarded? Or is calling Obama a Muslim code word for the N word the way they call Obama arrogant as a code word for ''uppity'? At tleast that makes more sense than just being afraid he is a Muslim - like he would order the US troops under his command to surrender to al-Qaeda or something.

That is how I know a fraud is going on - when they accuse someone of being a Muslim but do not then tell us what that means in terms of policy. They leave that open ended. That is psy-ops at its finest because the propagandists who came up with this line for McCain's group knows the fevered mind of the GOP lickspittle will fill in the blanks with their overactive fevered imaginations.

I do not support Obama - but these guys are using such stupid arguments to justify supporting McCain - an equally stupid candidate unfit for the office of president as Obama is - that I have to comment on this.
