Title: A Ron Paul Republican No More!

Lew Rockwell had a post up yesterday titled "Ron Paul Republicans Drop Prefix." There were a few in the MA delegation that did the same thing, the night after the big vote. Today, I also have an announcement for all of my friends out there in Internetland. This morning I did something similar. Instead of dropping the prefix however, I dropped the suffix. I am a Republican no more.

To be clear, I joined the Republican party for one reason and one reason only, and that was to support Dr. Paul's presidential bid. I'm not a joiner. I don't like being part of ideologically driven groups, and certainly not this one (I mean the national GOP here, not my brothers and sisters in the MA delegation who I stand by), not after what I saw at the convention. I simply cannot stomach being a voluntary member of what I perceive to be a bullying, morally and spiritually bankrupt organization focused solely on appearance over substance. Our current two-party system is nothing more than an elaborate hoax. It is a divide-and-conquer strategy against the American people, doing little more than creating false divisions among us – the more the better – to get us hating and mistrusting one another. I saw it all first-hand at the convention, though the negotiations of the infamous “deal,” and in conversations with other Republicans, delegates and strategists. Politics is a game of deception: Look over here at the war while the economy goes down the tubes. Trust me – I'm on your side (until I screw you).

My involvement in Ron Paul's campaign began as a political quest, but it has grown into a spiritual one. One of the most important things I've taken away from the last 18 months is (surprised?) personal freedom and liberty. Without understanding the nature of personal freedom and liberty, we cannot ever hope to build a free nation. Like Ron Paul, I will never abandon the cause of Liberty, but I choose to fight it from outside the bounds of the Republican Party. Can you imagine if Gandhi, or Martin Luther King felt than in order to change their countries, they had to do it from within the confines of the existing political system? What if they said, “I'll start working my way up, beginning with the post of Town committeeman.” As Dr. Paul said at the end of his speech at the Rally – this movement is much bigger than the Republican party, or the Democratic party or the Libertarian party.

Please understand that I am not here to say that working inside the GOP is bad or wrong or being a sellout. I don't believe that. Like Dr. Paul, I don't want to control your life, or coerce you into thinking that I know what the best path is for you. There is only one person who knows that, and that is you.

Ron Paul, Alternate Candidates Hold National Press Conference

Written by Brian Farmer

Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:37

Ron Paul, along with presidential candidates Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party), Cynthia McKinney (Green Party), and Ralph Nader (Independent), held a press conference Wednesday, September 10 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Bob Barr (Libertarian Party) was not present, but his campaign staff assured Nader less than an hour before the press conference that Barr supports the group’s four-point platform.

That platform focused on foreign policy, privacy issues, the national debt, and role of the federal reserve. On foreign policy, the group called for an end to the Iraq War, bringing home our soldiers from around the world, and putting an end to any plans to attack Iran. On matters of privacy, the group called for either radical change or outright repeal of the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The group also called for the rejection of torture, secret tribunals, and secret prisons.

On economic matters, always a major item of interest for Congressman Paul, the group called a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve and for a stop to taxpayer bailouts, increases of the national debt, corporate subsidies and the creation of money and credit out of thin air.

In his opening statement, Ron Paul pointed out that the two-party system offers no real choice because the two major parties and their candidates have no real disagreements on foreign policy, monetary policy, privacy issues, or the welfare state. Rather than voting for the lesser of two evils, he urged voters to send a message by voting for one of the alternative candidates.

Each candidate made a statement and answered questions. The purpose of the press conference was perhaps best expressed by McKinney, who described it as a declaration of independence from the present political order, because conformity and control is what the present order is about.

Baldwin described the political struggle as one between globalists and constitutionalists, stated that McCain and Obama were globalists, and warned against voting for “the evil of two lessers.”

Nader claimed that the group was calling for what the majority of the American people want, namely, third-party participation in televised debates and more such candidates on the ballot. He warned, “The flag can take care of itself; we have to take care of the Constitution.”

In a moment of delicious irony during the question and answer session, a journalist from Russia Today expressed her eagerness to get their story out, given that the two-party lackeys in the American media seemed more interested in ignoring the alternative candidates.
