This is another one of those stories we hear so often, about someone who is shot by cops who then claim the motorist 'tried to run them down'. In most instances the motorist is simply slaughtered on the spot, with the shooting ruled "a good shoot" by the police department, thus justifiable. In this case the man, Vincent Arias, was shot by police and escaped, only to be turned in by his own wife, who was threatened with having her kids stolen by 'department of child services'. Arias was then taken to twin towers jail in Los Angeles and held there for almost two years, with the D.A. demanding over a million dollars bond to let him out. Arias was charged with two felonies in October 2004; attempted murder of a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon (his '94 Chrysler). After putting up with big bills and stall tactics by a series of unimpressive lawyers, Arias fired them all; and with the help of a black cellmate he befriended, used the law library and accumulated knowledge to represent himself. Offered a plea deal of 20 years by the D.A., Arias, who had been facing a minimum of 35 years for each felony, rejected their 'deal' and was aquitted on all charges by a jury of twelve people in August 2006.

A truly amazing story of grit, determination and success despite all odds. This video is a summary/ preview of the entire 3 part 30 minute interview with southern California resident Vincent Arias, which will be posted soon. I am proud to be friends with this man.

---- pro per

A term derived from the Latin in propria, meaning "for one's self," used in some states to describe a person who handles her own case without a lawyer. In other states, the term pro se is used.

Means nothing. This is another decision in the so-called courts that will not be published, so that no one can use it or the information used in the case in another trial.

And the wheels grind on and hope springs eternal ... for those who can not see nor hear.

i remember you're also the guy who was scared to try to fight a traffic ticket 'cause you were told 'you can never win'. is that why you fled the country? why did you become so cynical and hopeless? you would have been rotting in jail for 100 years if you were this guy i suppose, whining about how you're the victium. shame.

i know in mex people just bend over and pay the bribe, but we ain't there quite yet.

I fought traffic tickets. Drove for years with no state issued plates (used private ones) on my pickup, and no drivers license. To what point?

is that why you fled the country?

Who/what gave you the right to make such a claim? On what basis do you make the claim? I spent two years back in the states working after I married my wife down here. So pleae state chapter and verse to back up your claim. In the 4um, I have been very open about why I left the states. If you can look around at what is happening to the housing, banking and police state tactics and not figure it out, then you are way, way behind the curve. And, by the way, there are more than 5,000 Americans who live near where I do in Mexico. There are tens of thousands more in other parts of Mexico, and many of them have been here much, much longer than I.

why did you become so cynical and hopeless?

Who said I am? I have posted ALL of the details about why court cases that go against public policy are never published and can not be used in subsequent cases. But that is certainly not hopeless; it simply shows you that man has no solution. Want to guess what the solution is?

you would have been rotting in jail for 100 years if you were this guy i suppose

I did not say anything about him. I said that his victory meant nothing -- cause it will never be published. Perhaps you need to adjust and/or practice your reading skills.

i know in mex people just bend over and pay the bribe,

You should not speak of things you have no personal knowledge of. Really.

but we ain't there quite yet.

LOL! No, you are WAY past that!! Or do you really not understand how the same pols keep getting elected?
