Barack Obama’s campaign says the Democratic presidential candidate raised $66 million in August, making for another record fundraising month. That tops the record $55 million Obama raised last February.

Campaign spokesman Bill Burton also said Sunday that Obama reached the $66 million mark with help from contributions from 500,000 new donors.

More details are expected later this week, when the campaigns file their monthly financial reports with the Federal Election Commission.

Obama decided not to accept public financing for the rest of his campaign, opting to spend as much as he can raise.

Republican candidate John McCain has accepted public financing, which limits his direct spending to about $84 million.

Man, if there aren't a lot of clueless people in this country! I have to wonder how they even find their way to and from work. All that Obummer is raising, or has raised, and all that McCain has raised and now is going to be given to him by "the public" is all just a huge waste and could be put to much better use.

Just think if these people were supporting Ron Paul! I wonder though: are we seeing some kind of fancy way of funneling big money through small people?

Good heavens you are cynical.

When you become a cynical realist we will induct you into our lodge.

Putting any sort of effort out requires a dash of optimism.

I don't know what is going on but it sure does sound crazy for people to throw that much--or any--money at two whackjobs like McCain and Obama.

Controlled media has implications like these.

Doing the math shows that to raise $66M would take 28,695,652 individuals contributing the maximum $2300/person.

Clearly, it is NOT 'the people' who are funding B-Ho.

A nation of mullets, ruled by inbred, moronic tyrants.

James...

Two million a day without even trying.

Obama is closing in a half BILLION dollars at this point. I would say that kind of money is coming from the TOP, not from the losers at the bottom.

For a half billion, they are buying something.

Of course they are buying something--they pretty much OWN both McCain and Obama. We get the same dog and pony show every four years, two clowns who have sold out, lock, stock and barrel and who hate America and that is who the people get to "elect" to be their "leader."
