Pakistan blames Al-Qaeda for hotel bombing by Emmanuel Giroud 2 hours, 19 minutes ago

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan on Sunday blamed Al-Qaeda linked Taliban militants for the massive suicide truck bombing at the Marriott Hotel that killed at least 60 people and injured more than 260.

Dramatic footage of Saturday night's attack showed the carnage could have been far worse, but the attacker failed to get through a secondary barrier when he crashed his explosives-laden truck into the hotel's security gates.

The interior ministry said the truck was packed with 600 kilos (1,300 pounds) of explosives, and pointed a finger at Taliban militants allied with Al-Qaeda who are based in the remote areas along the border with Afghanistan.

"All roads lead to Fata," ministry official Rehman Mailk told a news conference, using the acronym for the rugged tribal areas that have become a safe-haven for militants despite an army campaign to root them out.

"It has the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda," a senior official involved in the investigation told AFP. "It was an Al-Qaeda style bombing."

Or all the hallmarks of the CIA psych ops. Take your pick. As this is AFP, I'd say CIA.

Any number of credible candidates for this one.

Pakistani president tells foreign troops to keep out

www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/as...an.sovereignty/index.html

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan will not allow foreign powers to violate the country's sovereignty to pursue terrorists, the country's new president, Asif Ali Zardari, said Saturday.

Demonstrators burn an effigy representing President Bush in Multan, Pakistan, on Friday.

"We will not tolerate the violation of our sovereignty and territorial integrity by any power in the name of combating terrorism," he said in his first speech to Parliament since taking the presidential oath this month.

The president's comments echo those of Gen. Parvez Kayani, Pakistan's military chief, who said recently that the country would not allow foreign forces to conduct operations inside Pakistan.

Those comments came after the United States launched a military ground operation in South Waziristan, a region near the Afghan border that is home to Islamic extremists.

Just before the bombing.

Bush is going to go to the UN next week and criticize Russia by saying "neighbors don't invade their neighbors."

That explains our foreign policy. We don't ever invade Canada or Mexico. We always go halfway around the world to do our invasions.

Sam...

We as in WE, you are quite correct.

Our ancestors had quite a history of fooling around.

Washington said for us to stay the hell at home and mind our own business. He was quite right but our governments have always been outside looking for trouble.
