(s)Elections See other (s)Elections Articles Title: US losing war in Afghanistan, Pak tribal region: former army chief Former Pakistani Army chief General `Retd` Mirza Aslam Beg on Tuesday said that US has almost lost its war in Afghanistan and Pakistani tribal region and soon will leave with empty hands. Talking exclusively he said that it has become very difficult for US to sustain the pressure of local armed groups who have been giving tough time to the US-led forces in Afghanistan and Pakistani tribal area. Beg was Pakistan's Army chief of staff between 1988 and 1991 and now heads a research center. General Beg contended that a conspiracy is being hatched to destabilize Pakistan and in which the former Pakistani rulers were equally responsible. "Our own soil is being used against our country." The intelligence agencies of the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan are 'working against the interests of Pakistan, China and Russia', Beg added. Now the question is that how Pakistan will look into the matter, there is a need to expose the conspiracies of enemies?, asked Beg. He said that what is happening at the borders of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan is only because of the interference of US. "The US doesn't want to see peace in the area," he added. He said that the new regime in Pakistan is trying to take beck its control over the tribal area, which is not acceptable to the US. Innocent people are being killed in the tribal area because of the US aggressive policies, he added. General Beg alleged that former President Pervez Musharraf had pulled back the Pakistani intelligence agencies from tribal area. Musharraf had given the responsibilities of ISI and MI to CIA and FBI which is unfortunate, he added. He said that the United States is also providing training facilities to the people of Jundallah, in Baluchistan so that these people could create unrest in the area and affect Iran-Pak relations. General (Retd) Beg termed the act of the United States as a conspiracy and said that this should be stopped. He opined that another reason for the unrest in Pakistani tribal area is the Russian element. Russia wants to take revenge of its defeat in Afghan war. He said that western countries are trying to end the control of Pakistan from tribal area and want to create a neutral zone in the region. It is not only the war against terror it is the war of interests, how can we kill our own people, said General Beg. However, he stressed the need to eliminate those elements who have subverted their loyalties.
