Poster Comment: The Maverick takes on the hatred he and his people have worked to create. The guilt by association attacks has driven away the independents, and now McCain erratically drives away Republican hard right wingers by lecturing them about how they need to moderate their hatred. Which too often with Right wing Wingnuts is the only thing that keeps them warm at night. Way to go John, thanks. If this is not a typical ploy of yours done for some bizarre or arcane reason, you are doing the right thing. I read the Heinlein book as a teenager, but have not seen the movie. I am concerned now though; after all what did Heinlein ever do to anyone to have Hollywood put Jesus, Mary and Joseph into the screen play of Starship Troopers? White oak doesn't rot in water and this stuff has been in and out of the water (depending on the river height) since the 1850's. The material is old growth timber so it's one of those rare finds. My friend in SC who makes custom gun stocks (and will build complete rifles, preferably on pre-64 Winchester actions) for Arab sheiks and Pentagon generals did the math and he figured out that he makes roughly minimum wage when he carves a rifle stock. (the walnut blanks add between 2 and 7 thousand bux to the cost before he makes the first cut) But, I've never seen anything so flawless. You couldn't get a red one ;) between the barrel and the stock and with 28 lpi checkering they are perfect in every way. So, you can't possibly charge enough to be fairly compensated for that amount of lovingly applied oil. Your satisfaction no doubt comes from knowing that you salvaged that old wood and turned it into something beautiful and functional. Museum quality in fact. Between those lovely pieces of furniture and your wonderful music CDs you've made your mark, and I envy you.
