Title: C7 Corvette Allegedly Put On Indefinite Hold Due To GM Financial Struggles

Here's a whopper of a story if it ends up being true: Autoweek is reporting General Motors has placed the next-generation C7 Corvette program on indefinite hold due to the company's shaky financial situation. Sources within GM are saying the program has been shelved for now with no specific timetable for release. This is not to say the 'Vette is dead, only that GM's management has no clearly defined direction for the car. With the pressure from 2020 CAFE requirements and with coffers running dry, there are other more important programs to tend to.

Autoweek goes on to look into their crystal ball and imagine a time when the C7 will actually bow as early as 2014 — yikes. Unfortunately, this doesn't sound terribly far-fetched to us. Considering the madness happening in Detroit these days, this kind of thing has to be expected, but these kinds of rumors always come as a shock. We love the current Corvette, but that's a long time to wait for the next iteration. [Autoweek]

Possible PT Cruiser Of The Future Rendered... For Some Reason

Though we're fairly sure that the PT Cruiser is out after the 2009 model year, with no further signs of life, the drafters over at Auto Motor Und Sport went ahead and penned some futuristic versions of a next-generation PT Cruiser that no one's expecting, ever. Maybe Ze Germans are just having some fun, as is their way, or maybe no one told them that they no longer own a majority share in Chrysler. Whatever the reason, it's an interesting look at resurrecting a once surprisingly popular model created by Americans and completely abandoned...as is our way. [Source: Auto-Motor-Und-Sport]

Electric Audi Under Development, Not A1-Based

According to Audi board member Peter Schwarzenbauer, speaking at last week's Paris Motor Show, the Audi group is developing an all-electric car not based on the pending Audi A1 compact. His statement bolsters Audi's claim at the beginning of the year of plans for an electric within five to ten years. Whatever this electric Audi may be, it's likely to be based on the next VW Lupo platform which first debuted in the VW Up! Concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. At this point we might as well get prepared for the electric revolution, as everybody seems to be jumping in on the action now. [Autocar]

Remember Axenolith's first rule of GM...

Obviously the C7 'Vette was/is going to be a Euro-killer and make money hand over fist... Therefore, per the Rule, GM must kill, hamstring or postpone it...

Bring on the Depression. Bring it the F*** ON! If digging ditches and eating beans for a few years is what it takes for me to see some worthless sacks of crap bankers and politicians living in sack cloth and being spat upon by my fellow Americans well... where's my shovel?!?!

By golly, gumdrop, I do think you have nailed it!

Q: How will you know when gas prices are about to skyrocket to new records next year?

A: GM cancels their Volt program and announces gas prices will never go up again and they're betting the company's future on the biggest, gas-gulpiest SUV in the universe.

WooHoo! Janesville will rise again!

Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner.
Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.
