Widespread Nutrient Deficiencies Cause "Chromosome-Break Disease" Says University of California Professor of Biochemistry; Fixed by "Dirt Cheap"Multivitamins By Bill Sardi ©2008

Despite the fact humans need 40 different micronutrients (15 vitamins, 15 minerals, 8 essential amino acids and 2 essential fatty acids) to survive, and that most Americans are deficient in these nutrients at one time or another, a noted University of California, Berkeley professor of biochemistry says "nobody gives a damn" because there is no pathology at the estimated average intake level for these nutrients.

Bruce Ames PhD, also a member of the board of directors of the National Academy of Sciences and National Cancer Institute, says there is evidence that 56% of Americans are deficient in magnesium, 93% are deficient in vitamin E, 31% deficient in vitamin C, and this should be no surprise since about 32% of fuel sources for Americans are non-nutrient dense foods such as soft drinks, pastries, hamburgers, pizza, potato chips, cheese, beer and French fries.

However, Dr. Ames' laboratory stumbled upon nutrition-related pathology that precedes the occurrence of disease - chromosome breaks. If Americans heard they have "chromosome break disease" they might be more likely to supplement their poor diets with vitamin pills. But instead, many Americans are led to falsely believe the American diet is sufficient for health.

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, which are bundles of genes (30,000 genes in each living cell). Chromosome breaks lead to mutations that precede tissue damage and disease. Dr. Ames says the most evident chromosome break is caused by a shortage of folic acid, which is required for DNA repair. But similar chromosome breaks are observed with a shortage of other nutrients.

His research shows that half of the poorer classes of Americans have broken chromosomes because they consume prepared foods that are depleted of nutrients.

Few Americans consume the recommended 9 to 13 daily servings of fruits and vegetables, and there is no conclusive evidence yet that this amount of plant food reduces cancer rates or heart attacks. When health authorities discovered that 5 daily servings of plant foods did not reduce disease or mortality rates they raised their recommendation to almost unachievable intake levels. A family of four would have to consume 36-78 servings of fruits and vegetables a day! The government Food Pyramid is dominated by meat, dairy and grains, due to obvious influence by food producers.

The answer to these deficiencies is to provide Americans with the 40 essential micronutrients, nutrients which Dr. Ames calls "dirt cheap." Whereas a single vitamin or mineral is likely to cost ten-dollars or more per bottle, all 40 essential nutrients can be provided in adequate doses in a multivitamin for less than a tenth of the cost of buying each individual nutrient. Multivitamins are the best value.

Dr. Ames notes the public phobia over potential harm caused by pesticides or excessive exposure to solar radiation seems to be misplaced given that millions of Americans are walking around who have broken chromosomes due to nutritional deficiencies.

Dr. Ames says Americans are phobic over the wrong things. In fact, solar radiation produces vitamin D. Better than 7 of 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D, yet habitually use sunscreen lotions that block UV-B sun rays that produce vitamin D in the skin.

Dr. Ames partly blames nutritional deficiencies for the current epidemic of obesity. He says mice with micronutrient deficiencies rapidly become fat - they eat more food in search of essential nutrients their bodies need.

Because many Americans have forged ahead and regularly take multivitamins, fish oil, and extra vitamin D, he anticipates the life expectancy of Americans will continue to rise. Given that Medicare anticipates more than a $50 trillion shortfall in the coming decade to provide medical care for the population of Baby Boomers who are now entering their retirement years, it is important that more Americans begin to live healthier lives. America cannot continue to pay for a "disease-care" system.

Dr. Ames says mice given the antioxidant lipoic acid combined with the amino acid carnitine live longer and exhibit more vigorous activity levels. He says this discovery should not be limited to making healthier caged pets, but should be applied to humans to produce healthy aging.

Ames was speaking at the First annual meeting of the Optometric Nutrition Society at the Anaheim Marriott

And then you give your children a multi-vitamin to keep them healthy, when all the while the ingredients in that vitamin are imported from China and probably full of toxins of some sort or other "artifacts" and impurities. We need a lot of rope for the people for put globalism over on us.
