Palin Favors "path to citizenship" for Illegal Immigrants

Gov. Sarah Palin's view on Immigration appears to mirror that of Sen. John McCain. In an interview yesterday, she says she supports a "path to citizenship" for "undocumented" (i.e. illegal) immigrants:

Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?

I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Poster Comment:

America is sooooooo screwed. Out of all the one party candidates--that would be McCain, Palin, Obama and Biden--there isn't one of them who wouldn't welcome every illegal alien who is already here and all the rest who want to come. The country is doomed.

New Mexico is a swing state, with reliable polls too close to call. Mad Mac and Caribou Barbie know that conservative voters have "nowhere else to go," so they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by pandering to the Mexican vote in NM.

McCain winning the Mexican vote isn't so far-fetched. He has a good track record of favoring open borders (which he toned down to win conservative votes in the primaries - now he doesn't have to because they'll be voting "the lesser evil"), and many Mexicans detest blacks more than they dislike white gringos.

He's not just a hispanderer, mcCain's a serial North American Unioner. He's owned by the same people Barry Hussein Obama is.

Here's the last poll I saw on the issue:

Hispanic registered voters supported Obama over McCain by a 66 percent to 23 percent margin in a nationwide survey conducted by the Pew center in June and July.

Despite championing immigration reform in 2007, John McCain is poised to lose the Hispanic vote by a landslide margin that is well below President George W. Bush's 2004 performance.

Polls show Obama winning the broadest support from Latino voters of any Democrat in a decade, while McCain is struggling to reach 30 percent, closer to Senator Bob Dole's dismal 1996 result than to Bush's historic 40% four years ago.

MUCH MORE - Fobama looks to get 70% !
