(Oct. 23) - There's been a tsunami of get-out-the-vote videos this election year starring the folks over in Hollywood -- most of them, predictably, on behalf of Barack Obama.
This one, by Ron Howard -- found on FunnyOrDie.com -- is no exception, however the renowned director employs creative flourishes, Nick at Nite imagery and some (very) old friends to help make it an earnest and surprisingly bearable 3 minutes of politics, no matter which side of the fence you reside on.
"I've never done this before and I hope never to do it again, but I guess you could say I'm feeling pretty desperate these days," explains Howard to the camera in a dressing room. "So as a demonstration of my sincerity, this is for you America."
Then, a bewigged Howard steps first into a black-and-white world where he chats it up about Obama and human nature with Andy Griffith as if they never left Mayberry all those years ago. Later, he puts on another wig, transports up to Wisconsin and talks politics with The Fonz, Henry Winkler.
The video is the latest clip from FunnyOrDie, which has made news this election season by putting Hollywood celebrities in funny political videos.
