Walmart sells a spotting scope by Simmons: 20x50 with tripod for about $45.

I don't see it in their online catalog and I don't see any online reviews.

Any opinions on this scope are welcome.

I must add that I do not do credit card purchases; money orders OK.

TIA.

Junk. Cheap Chinese crap. Poor optics for low dollars.

Better you should get a Redfield (or a pre-Chinese Bushnell) used off of ebay. Then you'd have a spotting scope of excellent quality which you could pass down to your kids.

IMHO Shepard scopes are the best, but I don't know if they make spotting scopes.

You get what you pay for and that's not much quality for $45. Spend a little more, it'll be worth it in the long haul (preferably, the rest of your life).

Start here, I'd recommend Leupold/Wind River. Kowa if money is no object or Burris/Bushnell if it is. Leupold/Wind River has a great warranty. Did I mention that I like Leupold?? ;-)

Well, considering that I paid $130 for my Savage MarkII, $150 for the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 scope with mounts, I'm looking for something less than the cost of both ;)

It doesn't need to be the best optics. Just good enough to see where the bullet went.

I think I have that. I cannot be 100% sure, because I dont have it with me right now. But it is a simmons and I bought it at chinamart for about that price about 2 years ago.

It will let you see shot placement on shoot-n-see targets at 200 yds. I cant remember if it shows misses at that range, it's been a while since I used it. It's not bad for the price.

But over the weekend I can check and see what it is that I have.

For $45, I'd buy it, keep the receipt and all the packaging, and try it out.

It's all about definition at range, and the Simmons will give you no definition at any appreciable range. Like someone else said, you will see hits on shoot and see targets at 200 yards. You may get lucky and see hits on paper at 200 if you are shooting larger calibers.

I shall not vote for evil, lesser or otherwise.

Guys, thanks much.

I got some advise from a member of my online "virtual" team member that participates in often in contests and recommended Kowa.

His recommendation was about $400 for a scope.

I understood his reasoning, but it will need to my income prospects improve.

I thank all for your input.
