I've seen too much turtle shit on here so now I am going to post some Critter shit.

The view from Critter's living room window this morning:

And my new, but old wood stove, with rat dog:

This stove is a fabricating marvel. I dug it out of my ex wife's basement over the weekend. It seems to be made out of either a water heater liner or maybe it is an old propane tank, but the guy that made it had some slick ideas.

If anyone here wants to see more detail in order to maybe make one, let me know. It works fanFREEKINtastic. (2 images)

Not really a cabin, a little red country cottage. I got whacked with a foot of snow the other day and a 36 hour power failure. It seemed like a good time to take out the pellet stove and put in the wood stove. Also a good time to tweak the generator and give it a preseason warmup. lol

I shall not vote for evil, lesser or otherwise.

That white stuff outside your window......looks like......winter??? ;-)

I see you have a fan to help with blowing smoke up the chimney. Does cracking a window or door open help?

Critter has a COOL pad! :-)

On the woodstoves my Grandfather builds, he takes the thermostat from old chick warmers and rigs them up to a secondary air intake. As the stove cools in the night the bimettalic strip slowly opens the intake allowing some additional air in and stoking it up some.

Bring on the Depression. Bring it the F*** ON! If digging ditches and eating beans for a few years is what it takes for me to see some worthless sacks of crap bankers and politicians living in sack cloth and being spat upon by my fellow Americans well... where's my shovel?!?!

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs. —Thomas Jefferson, 1802

I see you have a fan to help with blowing smoke up the chimney.

Actually, I removed the old fireplace damper, and burned a 6" round hole through it, reinstalled it and ran the stove pipe up through the hole. Smoke is no problem at all. I get a nice updraft.

The fan blows the heat trapped in the fireplace out into the room. It makes a 10 degree difference in the whole house, having that fan running on low.

I shall not vote for evil, lesser or otherwise.

Clever old timer. :)

I'd like to do that to this one one day.

I was just gone for 9 hours. I stoked it up at 4 PM, and when I left, the house was 75 degrees. After 9 hours, I still had good bed of coals, and the house was 60 degrees. The temp outside is 19 degrees right now.

The guy that built this thing knew his shit.

How big is this 'stove'? The doggie doesn't appear to be a large size, and I see a chair, or a part of a chair to the left.......is it a child's chair, or an adult size? And then the matter of the logs............do they fit inside this 'stove'? And then, of course, how big is this fireplace opening? In some ways it looks like a rather large firebox area, but then again........

My father was a stonemason and built many a fireplace in his day; and my brother is a stonemason and continues building fireplaces....he uses all types of stone, but prefers river rock because of the uniqueness of color, size, texture, etc.

A few years back, he did a fireplace for a couple who had a beautiful view of the Sawtooth Mountains here in Idaho---and the mantle was large enough a grown man could sit on it and nothing would be out of proportional size...the firebox was huge in that one.

Where do I start? Well the dog weighs 10 lbs. He's little. That is a little stool on the edge of the hearth. There is a stainless steel tea pot on top of the stove to give you an idea of the size. It is not that wide or high, but quite deep.

It's a big fireplace and a lot of heat can get lost sitting in there, thus the fan to move it out into the room.
