The question is posed by an HSI member named Randysgrandma, who adds: "For about a week, I was having some problems with my BS being higher than they had been for close to a month. I wasn't sure what was causing it, and thought it might be stress. "I had switched to a powdered Stevia sweetener. I was concerned that it also contained maltodextrine. But a representative for a soda made with Stevia assured me that maltodextrine was totally ok for diabetics. "For an experiment, I checked my BS, it was 178, I drank a juice glass of water with a packet of the powder mixed in. My BS went up to 201!! "I looked at my generic 'sweet and low' packets, the main ingredient was dextrose. I remembered reading some time back that dextrose is just another name for glucose." Frogs R Cute: "I say Sweetener elevates Blood Sugar. I read in Dr. Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Solution Book not to use products that end in ol (Xylitol) or ose (Dextrose). Stress WILL raise Blood Sugar!" Patti3046: "I have not tested after powdered stevia because the kind I had was made with inulin, which did not dissolve well in drinks. But I have tested after using liquid stevia and it has not raised my BG. Even the stevia glycerite did not either. "My daughter in law gave me a diet Lipton tea the other day, and I drank about four ounces of it. It had aspartame in it, which they use in drinks but say they are trying to get off of! I didn't want to get into with her, so that is why I drank a few swallows and took the rest with me. That raised my BG 30 points. They know how I feel about aspartame, but don't have the same views as me on health issues. "If anyone wants to try liquid stevia, Puritan's Pride has the cheapest prices." Pinky: "I use the KAL brand of powdered Stevia; it doesn't raise my blood sugar readings. About $9.00+ for a small jar at my HFStore, but it works." www.hsibaltimore.com/faqs.html ">Click for Full Text!
