The individualist anarchist, so you are a student of Natural Law. He was a New Englander too, and was quite a man.

Something I've always wondered about: there are Left and Rightwing anarchists just as there are Left and Rightwing statists. Left wing or "classical" anarchists oppose both government and private property, and seem to believe that the natural state for people is to live in communes, kind of like the Amish. The right anarchists are libertarians, who defend private property while opposing the state. The two sides seem to mistrust each other almost as much as the Left and Right statists (Communists and Fascists) hate one another, which makes me think that their attitude towards the state is not the deciding factor.

Where was Spooner on the Libertarian vs. Communitarian anarchist divide?

Libertarian of course. His writings influenced the formation of the libertarian Party.

Wasn't Spooner a supporter of labor unions and something of a hero to many "progressives" of his time? Those certainly aren't the typical libertarian positions today (although there's nothing about labor organizations that's inconsistent with a position favoring personal and economic liberty).

Thanks for the ping. Just got through listening to it. I liked what he said about how he would vote for Ron Paul in a minute over McCain and Obama.

Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end.
