The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace

What must our enemies be thinking?

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush. The proposition is only one example of the classless disrespect many Americans have shown the president. [Commentary] AP

According to recent Gallup polls, the president's average approval rating is below 30% -- down from his 90% approval in the wake of 9/11. Mr. Bush has endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the right.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.

The president's original Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers alarmed Republicans, while his final nomination of Samuel Alito angered Democrats. His solutions to reform the immigration system alienated traditional conservatives, while his refusal to retreat in Iraq has enraged liberals who have unrealistic expectations about the challenges we face there.

It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.

Yet it should seem obvious that many of our country's current problems either existed long before Mr. Bush ever came to office, or are beyond his control. Perhaps if Americans stopped being so divisive, and congressional leaders came together to work with the president on some of these problems, he would actually have had a fighting chance of solving them.

Like the president said in his 2004 victory speech, "We have one country, one Constitution and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America." In Opinion Journal Today

To be sure, Mr. Bush is not completely alone. His low approval ratings put him in the good company of former Democratic President Harry S. Truman, whose own approval rating sank to 22% shortly before he left office. Despite Mr. Truman's low numbers, a 2005 Wall Street Journal poll found that he was ranked the seventh most popular president in history.

Just as Americans have gained perspective on how challenging Truman's presidency was in the wake of World War II, our country will recognize the hardship President Bush faced these past eight years -- and how extraordinary it was that he accomplished what he did in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Sadly, I believe voters rejected it. Too bad.

Yes, as a matter of fact they did..

Sheehan pulled down 17%. A good showing for an independent.

Still, I have to wonder why one of the most liberal places in the world would object to this measure and back Pelosi by 3 to 1, knowing she is basically little more than an un-indicted co-conspirator.

They don't know it yet, but there's a fight brewing between the Obama personality cult and the rest of America.

The first shot fired across the bow will be "racist!"

The return salvo will be deafening.

I CAN'T WAIT! This is gonna.be.so.cool!

What is that deafening sound going to be.

Reality.. Objective thought. Raw anger.

ANY objective analysis of Obama's policy positions and proposals will be met with cries of "Racist!" by the faithful.

Then, there will be a fight between those who are offering honest criticism in good faith, and the Obama worshipers.. Those who believe him incapable of sin. Or even error.

Obama worshipers

True story. I ran into some of those Obama worshipers today. Was having lunch at McDonalds (the boycott is over they caved on the gay issue) anyway it was in the city so there were a lot of black folks there. Some black lady started yelling OBAMA!. I was talking to my helper telling him about the Obama worshipers. She yelled OBAMA! again. So I yelled Sucks right after she finished. I kept eating my grilled chicken sandwich and didn't look around. Nobody came up to me to beat my ass or nothing. Just finished eating and left.

Not so strange.. We're all here (And there, and hither and yon..) because of the Dubya personality cult back during the 2000 primary.

Some people are, apparently, just susceptible to this sort of behavior.

Toss in the black badge of modern victim hood and their endless whinging and conspiracy theories, then salt it with a little white guilt and it's not very hard to imagine how the first serious black presidential candidate becomes an overnight deity.

He beat "the man" doncha know..

And it's so sad that that's all it takes for an affirmative-action mulatto to gain entrance to the White House.

Honestly? I'm not mad at him.. But allot of people will be when the buyers remorse sets in.

Remember the tale which ends: "You knew I was a snake when you picked me up."

They should have known, but used this guy like a canvass to paint their own hopes and desires on. They'll be mighty pissed when he can't live up to them.

I'm mad at the Republicans.

They blew this. They've been playing both ends against the middle for years now. The Neo's using the Paleo's and Religious Conservatives (The sane ones, anyway. The others are effectively neo's themselves) for political cover.

They had to, because they couldn't run on what they honestly think and believe. People simply wouldn't buy it.

They did this for so long, and were so flagrant, that we're ALL tainted now. That neo-con smell just doesn't come off.

As it is, in this cycle anyway, the terms "Christian" and "Conservative" are useful only as terms of derision..

This Shapiro idiot isn't alone: 26% of Americans share the same view!

I saw a thread on Free Republic about a year ago where some nutcase said that "History will remember Bush as one of our greatest and most misunderstood Presidents! The next generation will remember a fine man who stood up to tyranny around the world and defended freedom!"

Most of his fellow posters chimed in with "Amen, Hallelujah!"

I know this because I predicted with near certainty
that Ron Paul would become the next president
and while it didn't happen I'm almost always right as I go with my gut
also the knowledge that she is a good person just like Bush

and maybe Obama won't be so bad, since the reporters at FOX news

You usually only see this level of love and unquestioning loyalty to a "dear leader" in a totalitarian state. Shapiro sounds like some low-level party hack in 1960's China writing odes to Mao, or some fawning Italian journalist singing the praises of "Il Duce."

That's something else that the Bushbots have in common with the Obamaphiles - a slavish devotion to their Dear Leader or Messiah. I can think of nothing more un-American.

Good news from a bad deal…..

1. As a Southerner, Barrack’s election completely negates any charges of racism in America. I will not have to feel guilty or defend myself anymore.

2. As an American, I will not have to defend this country from charges of racism or cowboy diplomacy, or anything else from Europe and leftists all over the world. We can even say to them, “Where is your Black President?”

3. I am free from the resentment of all Black Americans towards Whites. No excuses now, we have elected one of their own.

4. I am free from defending George Bush and his policies. I feel giddy!

5. I am free from the Clintons, their power or control of the Democratic Party.

6. Jimmy Carter will lose more influence.

7. Jesse Jackson has lost his issue.

8. The left‘s attack apparatus will have nothing to do, no Bush to blame. Many of them will have to fade into the sunset, or maybe get a real job.

9. Bush derangement syndrome is finally cured.

10. The MSM has lost their cover in G. Bush. What will they do now? Who will they blame?

11. The Democratic Party will now have to accept responsibility for their policies, positions, and actions for the first time in eight years.

12. With B. Obama in charge, there is a real chance that all Americans may finally realize the limits of government and accept individual responsibility again.

13. Since Obama was alleged to be a Muslim, we can now look at militant Islam as the brutal enemy that they really are rather than a reaction to American policy or favoritism to Jews, etc.
