Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called former aides of Sen. John McCain "jerks" for circulating unflattering stories about her since the Republican ticket lost its bid for the White House Tuesday.

Sources close to John McCain say Sarah Palin was denied a chance to speak at McCain's concession address.

The stories, which have been attributed to unnamed sources within the McCain campaign, include claims that Palin did not know Africa was a continent instead of a country, or which countries are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement, despite touting her familiarity with neighboring Canada.

Speaking with CNN's Gary Tuchman after returning to Alaska, Palin speculated those stories may have originated with campaign staffers who helped her prepare for her debate with Democratic Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

"Those were taken out of context and that's cruel," Palin said. "It's mean-spirited. It's immature. It's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it, taking things out of context, and then tried to spread something on national news."

One source involved in preparing Palin for interviews and the vice-presidential debate told CNN "she had not paid attention to a single policy debate that's gone on in this country for 10 years."

Palin told Tuchman she remembers having conversations about NAFTA and Africa during her preparations, but that the stories about her "are not true." She said it was "cowardly" for staffers to make claims about her anonymously.

"It's not fair and it's not right." Watch CNN's Gary Tuchman's interview with Palin »

Two McCain sources said they were furious about Palin's supposed call Saturday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, which turned out to be a prank by two radio DJs.

A source close to Palin told CNN that she had prepared to deliver a concession speech Tuesday night, and expected to address the crowd at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, Arizona.

Several sources told CNN that McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt told Palin no, in part because of built-up anger among some McCain aides who say Palin had become more interested in her own future than in McCain's election. Palin denies that claim. Watch what's being said about Palin »

There have also been reports of a somewhat distant relationship between McCain and his running mate.

"This is so unfortunate and, quite honestly, sickening," Palin aide Meghan Stapleton said Thursday in a written statement.

"The accusations we are hearing and reading are not true, and since we deny all these anonymous allegations, there is nothing specific to which we will respond. Watch more about the infighting »

"We have the highest regards for Sen. John McCain. Gov. Palin was honored to be chosen as McCain's running mate. And as governor of Alaska, Gov. Palin looks forward to working with President-elect Obama on securing energy independence for America."

On Election Day, Palin denied there was tension. Once back in Alaska, she said she would not respond to individual accusations. Watch Palin discuss the controversy »

"I won't comment on anyone's gossip or allegations that are based on anonymous sources," she said. "That's kind of a small, evidently bitter type of person, who would anonymously charge something foolish like that -- that I perhaps didn't know an answer to a question. So until I know who was talking about it, I won't have a comment on false allegations."

In response to the allegations that she was ill-prepared for interviews and debate, Randy Scheunemann, an aide assigned to Palin, called her "brilliant" and said she has a "photographic memory."

Despite the acrimony, many McCain aides say they are sad the campaign team dissolved so quickly.

Palin can come back from this, and nobody I know dislikes her that much. Politically her and I don't resonate but on a personel level I find allot of good things about this cute little piece of Tundra Trash.

I hope we have not heard the last of her. And really, my political instincts say we haven't.

She's a neophyte from a backward mini-state, completely unprepared for national politics.

She was herself. That's what they're blaming her for.

I'm not a fan of her's and I didn't vote for her..

But I would like to know why the anger isn't directed at McCain, who has a long history in the Senate and knows the score and the importance of this nomination, but picked her anyway.. and allegedly at the spur of the moment, with no real vetting or consideration.

Anyone who thinks she cost him the election should perhaps look at who chose her in the first place. That would be McCain.

Instead, we're hearing all this crap about her wardrobe and on and on.. What about the guy who would wanted to potentially leave our nuclear arsenal in the hands of noob?

That's the key question. This might be a simple matter of the Establishment welcoming McCain back into the fold, while using her as a scapegoat for the debacle. It's overboard ugly, even for the political types.

You must be joking. This is the Establishment playing political Krystalnacht on a personal level. Her best revenge is to dump her GOP baggage and fire away from the safety of the alternative media, for as long as it stays up and running.

McCain is a bi-partisan genius who isn't afraid to give the isle a reach-around or whatever it is.. He ran on a neo-conservative "security" platform and got laughed out of the voting booth for it.

Who knows what they're protecting? Him? His neo-con message? Inoculating themselves against Palin in 2012? The way his campaign was run? There's allot of options to choose from in this regard.

Still, I think if they keep this crap up all they're going to do is create a tidal wave of sympathy for this woman.

I didn't care for her at all, but I'm even seeing the bias and hate that's being misdirected here. If this continues, it will all blow up right in their faces.

It's always nameless, drive by type attacks too. Makes it look even worse.

McCain has another 10 years in the Senate. Byrd is 90, Inouye, 84, Stevens the same, I could go on. IMHO, Palin is unabashedly pro-life and this is at least part of the reason for the assault. This reminds me of the Clarance Thomas electronic lynching, much of that came from the feminist harpies.

She's the anti-dyke.

That is political and fair game.

Whether or not she is a whore or worse is not political.

Example...If one delves into McKooKs closet, we would be able to label him a...whore master...But that did not happen as he is finished on the national scene.

We either have a lot of homosexuals here that hate women, or people that are shoveling manure for the system. Maybe both.

Ya know, JT, I woke up this morning thinking about this, with all the brouhaha trying to make her out to be some DIVA.

Well, I've got a big old question........how many women in the world do you or any other man, or woman, for that matter, know that would be considered a DIVA by anyones' standards that is as outdoorsy, shoot, gut, and skin out a moose, or cut and clean fish type? How many divas does anyone know that can pick up a gun, let alone shoot it as well as a man? How many women does anyone know that has 5 kids who have all had puke and shitty diapers that think they're a diva?

Beyond the sour grapes of jealous wimmen and queers, this is definitely an attempt to plant something in the background for history and in the minds of people........and as Cyni says, "Who".........others might say, "Why", and then others will simply march in lock step calling her a whore (with no evidence to support this smear), stupid (again without evidence), blah blah blah.

And if you consider some more of the whine--like they couldn't get her to listen to their indoctrination so she could be interviewed, and there are people eating that allegation up, why would they think she'd be a complaint anything else if in office....that gives credence to being an independent thinker/doer.

As for the clothes allegation, she has gone on the record as saying she buys at a consignment shopt, or a 2nd hand shop up in Alaska........if this weren't so, that would be plastered all over, in headlines and on talking media, that it was checked out and she lied!

Cripes, there's even bitching that she answered a hotel door for the apparent handlers as she got out of the shower and had a towel wrapped around her!!! Guess they preferred a bare-assed nekkid womana to answer the door. AND if she hadn't answered the door, the rumor mill would be that she was too busy trying to 'beautify' herself, or was so petulant about why she only had this or that to wear.

It is all such paris hilton type bullshit. Even a number on this board have bought the juice on this one.

You nailed it dee. Sarah Palin is certainly no diva, that's for sure, per the list you gave. But the word "diva" will stick in voters' minds 4 or 8 years hence. It has a nice catchy put-down ring to it does it not. It's the exact opposite of what Sarah Palin is - and for all her warts, being a diva was not one of those warts.

If anything Palin was an ordinary person who was outside the Beltway who did not shmooze at cocktail parties in DC or NYC. She was a person of the people who connected with the people.

MSM and the movers and shakers within the RNC and DNC want Sarah Palin marginalized. That's the "who", imo. The "why" is something for us to ponder.

Cant have that, can we?

For her, this agreeing to be on the ticket was the easiest way to get name recognition at the national level. (I daresay most of the kids graduating today or just recently probably can't even find Alaska on a map!)

Something like 54% of our population are women. Geeze, we even saw women from NOW supporting her! Now that had the scare the bejiggers out of some people.

And her positive thoughts and remarks about Ron Paul.

When you stop to think of how the environuts have used the tactics of running to court to try to run the country, it should be a lesson that it is necessary to play the system with the rules that are there available for everyone, but just aren't used.

In elections, there is a distinct advantage in name recognition--just look at how the sheeple went bonkers over a guy they'd never heard of EXCEPT the speech he had given some 3 years prior. Remember how the media just gushed and gushed and gushed, and anytime he was in the news, it was always with the mention of the keynote speech at the previous convention, so if you had sort of forgotten who he was, you were reminded!

Thus far, I don't recall, other than Perot, candidates that didn't have national name recognition.

Along with name recognition, there is the issue of gender, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. Its my opinion that most men don't cotton to having a woman boss.

Anyways, between her being one of us dissatisfied 80 million people, having a free and independent husband (and possibly those same feelings in her heart), and now national recognition, should there be a movement within the next several years to go third party, at least a large part of the problem in gaining a following is already taken care of. She's a feisty little fighter, not afraid to swing a punch, whereas someone like Ron Paul doesn't have that in his nature.

Sarah isn't dumb. She has to know that running 3rd party WITHOUT a bunch of positives going ahead of you that it would be virtually impossible to win national office. I knew it back in 86 when I ran for a state office--my heart was independent, but there was no way that would happen because there was no groundwork laid many years beforehand.

How many women does anyone know that has 5 kids who have all had puke and s**tty diapers that think they're a diva?

The answer is none (some close tho) and that's what really frightens her condescending, nasty opponents. I've discussed her politics, which aren't mine, but if she was a D, her story - from mom, to mayor to governor - would qualify her for sainthood. The character assassination is about the small town qualities she represents and, more importantly, what she might become. Rather than toss people like her over board immediately, I'd ask all those who once thought Bush was a conservative to pause before doing so. Just maybe events happen for a reason, and just maybe this disgusting political over kill will ignite a spark in her, Todd, or some other person yet to be identified. If our side decides second chances are verboten, and people never change, I'd suggest our litmus test is impossible to meet.

Good ole boys hate women.

Yes, and you can also imagine the hatred that went forth when she didn't endorse Stevens because of the cloud he was under......and as the jury decided, she was correct not to.
