Leon Trotsky on his deathbed is interesting. The rest are just damn depressing.
It's history, which interests me. The remote outposts and buildings interest me. The motivation behind them is depressing, however.

The Cheka came up with the gulag scheme. And the Ruskie Commies wanted to give a medal to its founder, Felix Dzerzhinsky. Thanks to the Russian Orthodox Church for deep6-ing that idea in a crafty fashion.

His skull was fractured. A trepanning operation was performed yesterday, and specialists had been summoned from the United States. The attack was made upon Trotsky by Franck Johnson, who is described as a French Jew. Trotsky, it is stated, invited Johnson to take afternoon tea with him and Johnson was therefore not searched, as are most people entering Trotsky's carefully guarded home in the city suburbs. According to the police Johnson had a small pickaxe, of the type used by Boy Scouts, hidden in his trousers. He is alleged to have attacked Trotsky suddenly, battering his skull and injuring his right shoulder and right knee. According to one of his bodyguards Trotsky's last words before he became unconscious were "I think Stalin has finished the job he started." Trotsky escaped without injury a couple of months ago when hundreds of machine-gun bullets were fired into his house by a gang of twenty men. Trotsky was born in 1877, and was forty when the Russian revolution broke out. With Lenin he shared in organising the movement that led to the establishment of the Soviet regime. When Lenin died Trotsky's influence was undermined, and he became more and more open in his disagreement with Communist Party policy. He was expelled from the party in 1927, was sent to Alma Ata, in Siberia, and soon afterwards was deported from the Soviet Union.

Hitler is often touted as the worst, but IMO was a piker compared to Koba. Have you read Stalin by Edvard Radzinsky Stalin and his Hangmen by Donald Rayfield Intense, informative and depressing. How Stalin played the West, not only the intellectuals, but industry also, as he proceeded to industrialise and bought equipment in spades from US and Euro sources.
A pile of shoes looks familiar.... I agree with you. Stalin does not get much attention from scholars in comparison to what Hitler gets even though Stalin was 2x more evil to his own people as well as to other nation's peoples. Stalin was a demon. Hitler killed 6 million Jews in 6 years whereas Stalin killed 8 million Ukrainians in 1 year. Silence from the West to this day.
Trotsky and Jabotinsky died within two weeks of each other in 1940. Details of Jabotinsky's death have always been sketchy and secretive. I think that Trotsky was about to throw in behind Jabotinsky and the larger banking/industrial powers of the day wanted both them out of the way as they would have been a formidable duo. There are people that wish Stalin's history to be kept quiet. That's why we didn't hear a lot about him when we were growing up but Hitler was shoved down our gullets like castor oil.
This is open to debate..
I'm still waiting for proof.
He also decimated his own Russian peasants, millions and millions of them for what he perceived correctly would be their opposition to collectivisation. The irony of a dictatorship of the urban proletariat taking their unwashed country cousins into the literal pits. And how easy it was for Koba, the urbanized intellectual communists, along with the workers and soldiers were only too happy to kill peasants and serfs all over Russia.
