Mike has informed me that Chris, his youngest brother, has contracted spinal meningitis and is in a coma. Mike and his sister, Nancy, are headed to Seattle via train on Saturday to be with their brother.

Mike describes Chris as a "fundie, a very conservative Christian, very very nice, smart, stubborn, giving, and always generous with his time and resources."

Mike has given me permission to say that your prayers and/or well wishes for Chris would be very much appreciated.

Poster Comment:

Prayers for Chris's full recovery, Mike.

Amazing how much empathy we can stir up as individuals, and how far apart it can blow us when stirred up by social engineer types.

Sorry to hear about your brother, Mike. I'd pray for him but being an athiest that would be damned akin to mocking him, eh?

We are all connected, which is how I see things from my religious point of view. I don't have much to say right now and have no desire for political rough and tumble, which Chris hates.

He is a social butterfly to my iconoclastic prickliness. He is into sports passionately -- far far more then me, is a very devote Christian who's religion is deeply important to him.

When our sister passed on of cancer a few years ago, he was the one who relocated to Colorado to care for her and spent the most time and resources on her. He waved us away from the hard part and took it on himself. And he never once complained or lamented anything this put upon him. He is a wonderful man.

This is incredibly hard and painful, and I'll leave it at that. It is painful to know him well enough to know one of the first things he will think about and do when he wakes up, he will pray for and think about all those who are less fortunate then him in this sort of affliction.

And do so with charm and humor I don't hold a candle to.

I'll be back here when I am able to do so.

I'm going to pray like there's a tomorrow for your bro. I pray there is a chance.
