None of us has heard much about it because it hasn't been reported in any English media, but The German Supreme Court banned the Celtic Cross in Germany almost two weeks ago. As the symbol is all over Germany, and Europe in general, there's mealy-mouthed legalese inserted so that "apparently harmless" use of the cross will be considered when the cops take an interest in you for wearing or displaying the offending symbol, the excuse being that those scary hate groups that can barely pay their beer tabs use it also. What's next? Banning lines and circles in general? Banning language? Wait, the latter is already under consideration in some forms.

"But racists use the symbol!" will be the usual whine. I used to care. I think it stopped about the time I realized that the hammer and sickle isn't classed as a hateful symbol by those that claim to be experts on the topic and train the police to be on the lookout for these symbols.

The larger point here is that a government is attempting to legislate use of one of the oldest symbols in Europe. Sure, the swastika's illegal, most of the world gets why. But this symbol has been used for thousands of years by many groups for many reasons even to this day, some uses being religious. It's just another step toward the destruction of culture all in the name of combatting "hate". The interest it really serves are those that advocate the two dimensional monoculture of servility and silence in the face of tyranny.

In this case, I can see little difference between those that would ban a cross and those that would burn a cross. Both actions are meant to intimidate particular segments of the population. One stems from a government and the other stems from ignorance, though I repeat myself.

As an American of both Celtic and German descent, my solution is going to be to start printing small Celtic Cross stickers and put them everywhere while it's still legal to do so in America. I'd rather be thought a racist by the whining few than to think myself a coward on my deathbed.

Which side of the crosshairs are you on? If you don't choose, the choice will be made for you.

I never said it should be illegal.

People should have more sense than to use symbols like this.

I don't drink koolaid at all.

The Celtic Cross has nothing to do with white supremacists, and they have appropriated a symbol that is not theirs, just as the Nazis appropriated one that was not theirs, either.

Let them make up their own and stop taking one that belonged to my ancestors.

Actually, it goes back a lot longer than either one of the Bush regimes, we just didn't know how bad off we were until recently.

It all depends on how far back you want to go. I'd say the Civil War is a good starting point.

As I just said, let them make up their own and stop using something that has nothing to do with them.

Symbols are very powerful things. "Symbol" actually mean "wholeness," and is the opposite of "diabolical."

These people are too stupid to realize what they are doing.

In the Eastern world the swastikas are still very popular and are not associated with the Nazis.

The swastichas I believe orignated in India as a symbol of good luck. In German it translates to Twisted Cross. In Vietnam it appeared as a symbol on grave markers.

This all part of a pissing contest between the establishment and the unreconstructed popular right.

That may be so, but the unintended consequence is that millions not in the UPR will see it as an affront, if they even hear of it to begin with.

And that may just be the point.

This is the Euro-establishment's Al Qa'eda.

The harder they stomp on the hard right, the harder the hard right becomes.

They tried like hell to choke the shit out of the Vlamms Blok in Flanders denying them the use of the name and banning words in their party program. The party just changes the name - now they're Vlaams Belang - and they are back with more voters than ever before. Geeting near 50% in Flemish areas, I understand.

The left and the establishment use them as a boogeyman to frighten European voters. From the establishment viewpoint though, the cure may be worse than the disease.

I see what you're saying and agree to a great extent. So the choice is let the two forces of moronity hijack yet another ancient symbol until it's no longer "allowed" to be used or to attempt to defend it.

It's just a symbol, yes. This is different as it's the first outright banning of a cross in our lifetimes.

I need to pick up my preparedness pace here.

That's a whole 'nother subject from this one, but of the most important things to have around in case of a crisis, I'd sure as heck prefer to have enough food preps in my "bug out bag" than taking up a lot of space in it with symbols. All symbols do is create a sense of belonging to a group.

If people don't already know what group they belong to, a symbol isn't going to help much.

All symbols do is create a sense of belonging to a group.

They do far more than that. They're a sense of continuity, the very function of culture. It's why the ghost dances were outlawed, for instance.

Targeting this symbol is a conscious act. The boneheads that get it tattooed on their face are by and large not very conscious about many of their actions.

Good point, although ghost dances weren't really symbols anymore than praying is a symbol but yes, they were banned from praying in their own manner, too. I guess you could say totem poles were symbols of continuity, though, and to my knowledge, they weren't torn down or banished.

As far as I'm concerned, anybody who tatooes their face with anything has some serious problems to begin with, but that's just me. :)

I've come to the conclusion that if people were ever going to fight back, they've already missed their best chances. Me, I'd rather just travel light. But if and when the shooting does start, I figure there'll probably be plenty of "stuff" just laying around on the ground that won't be of much use to its former owners anymore, if you get my drift. ;)
