Ex-Clinton Adviser Is Choice to Head CBO

Peter R. Orszag, a Brookings Institution economist who served as a senior economic adviser to President Bill Clinton, was named yesterday to head the Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan agency that provides lawmakers with cost estimates for legislation and other budgetary analyses.

Incoming Senate Budget Committee chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) announced Orszag's nomination, saying the economist was selected from three finalists who were interviewed Monday by a bipartisan team of congressional budget leaders.

Orszag is "exceptional," Conrad said in a written statement. "Not only is he an outstanding economist, widely recognized as one of the most able economists in the country, but he also has written widely on the many challenges facing the Budget Committee, the Congress, and the country."

Orszag also won praise from the outgoing chairman, Judd Gregg (R- N.H.), who called him "an excellent choice" and a man who "shares my deep concerns about the fiscal challenges posed by entitlement spending."

Orszag, an expert on Social Security, is a co-founder with Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin of the Hamilton Project, which seeks to address income inequality in the United States without hampering American competitiveness. Before joining Brookings, Orszag served as a special assistant to Clinton for economic policy and as a senior adviser on Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers.

Conrad said he would recommend Orszag in January to House and Senate leaders, who would formally appoint him to a four-year term. He would replace Acting Director Donald Marron, who has been serving in that capacity since Douglas Holtz-Eakin left the agency last year for the Council on Foreign Relations. Marron and Eugene Steuerle, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute, were also finalists for the job.

There argument goes Obama is still better than McCain. They fail to recall that the nation dumped Clinton for Bush b/c he took the nation to war (Somolia, Bosnia, Waco) and placed layers of additional social programs onto the backs of people.

They forget how Andrew Coumo helped to push the housing market into default not to mention the queers and multiculturists they let out of their cages only to be placed in government positions.

And then the Bush administration proceeded to give us even more wars and even more regulation (No Child Left Behind, the Patriot Act etc).

The people who voted for Obama as an antidote to Bush will be in for the same disappointment as those who thought Bush would cure us of Clinton.

I think Obama should go back to Kenya (where he was born) and see if he can help da bruthas solve their problems--that is, after they all get through dancing. He has even admitted himself he is not up to the job of being President. Even that thing he calls a wife admitted it but the thought police who run youtube deleted that one.

Okay, let's think about it for a second or two, if possible.

Clinton's economic team, somehow, was able to turn the enormous budget deficit that Poppy Double-You left behind into some decent SURPLUS. Then, Double-You Junior came about and totally f_ucked up the country, the economy included.

Now, smart a__es like you are squealing and screaming because Obongo is bringing back the competent technocrats that turned around the country's finances.

How stupid is that? Can you evaluate it, on a scale from 9 to 10 where 9 stands from extremely stupid and 10 is for totally stupid?

I suppose, in your non-existent wisdom, you're going to feel nostalgic about the good all double-you days when the white men and the rednecks were messing up things for everyone, regardless of race or pedigree.

Just to make you aware of how stupid and uninformed you are, note that the act you talk about which, WITHOUT A DOUBT, is the root of all of today's evil, was initiated by GOP's and was offered to Billy (the Goat) Clinton to sign as a veto-proof bill (check the Wiki).

Anyways, I thought that the root of all evil, which completely destroyed the world economy was the few thousand Blacks who defaulted on their affirmative action mortgages.

The bill that ultimately repealed the Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (R-TX) and in the House of Representatives by James Leach (R-IA) in 1999. The bills were passed by a 54-44 vote along party lines with Republican support in the Senate[8] and by a 343-86 vote in the House of Representatives[9]. Nov 4, 1999: After passing both the Senate and House the bill was moved to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions. The final bipartisan bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90-8-1 and in the House: 362-57-15. Without forcing a veto vote, this bipartisan, veto proof legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999. [10]

So, let's go back to the discussion. You are stupidly bitching and moaning because Obama seems to be hiring some competent people who actually fixed the deficit problem when given a chance.

I'm afraid, my friend, that the 9-to-10 scale of stupidity on which I suggested you rated yourself is no longer good enough for you. Given the evidence at hand, you are A PERFECT TEN, as far as stupidity and small-mindedness is concerned.

Clinton signed the bill. If it was a disaster he should have tossed it back into the laps of the swine who pimped for it. Simple stuff.

The blacks you adore helped to destroy the American housing industry, not the global economy. I already took you to school on this subject. Do a search and get a clue :P

And do you at least BEGIN to realize how hollow your arguments are? You are blaming Obama for hiring economy experts who used to work for Clinton and were part of the process that turned a budget deficit into a surplus and, when presented with the contrast between the economic situation while Clinton was president to the disaster that Bush produce you... blame it all on Clinton because... Left out of this article is the connection of all but one of the Obama's economic team to Robert Rubin who is a certified criminal. Rubin was the CEO of Citi's private bank which has 100 billion dollars in assets. This money is mostly hot money from drugs, bribes, spies, gun runners and other such upstanding citizens.

The big banks launder a trillion dollars ayear in drugs, 500 billion dollars a year in bribes and almost 400 billion dollars in illegal weapons sales. They also help the official depositiry of the US (the NY FED) and the Treasury Secretary fulfill their role in stealing 4 billion dollars a week from unaudited federal spending. Besides their connection to Rubin did anyone notice that most of his team is Jewish?

Your perceptions are your perception, mine are mine. I am not going to be able to be in here much of this holiday season, but I have yet to feel any sense you "are kicking my ass" as you put it.

You let this election season hold you as an emotional hostage, I see no point to that and take what you say with a grain of salt, and I don't let it become personal.

I feel the way I do and believe what I believe, and have yet to see effective or compelling evidence or argument to move toward your advocacy.

I understand you better then you think, you have had real life experience that does come through compared to some I've known in here.

But as someone who has had it much rougher and more contentious then I have ever had in these shadow boxing dens of forums in many ways, I don't sweat the small stuff. And I don't ever feel heat from forums like these.

That is very much a clear reality check. I am bored in choir forums like DU and handle being outnumbered with a healthy percentage of opponents living for the low blow or even the back stab.

I am fascinated by this election as it has given me perspective and food for thought I don't share, but I find valuable. However, I have a job this and next month that is heavy in time demand and I have to go back to Seattle more then once on top of it, so to be fair to you I would say don't waste too much time sending rounds downrange.

I would love to engage right back, but I just won't be able to do much in that regard until Yule is over.

I hope you have a good holiday season, and try to relax and pace yourself. There will be plenty to talk about up to and through this inauguration on 20 Jan 2009.

I'll still be around, and so will you.

I haven't a clue what you're trying to say.

I couldn't make heads or tails out of it either.

Must've been taking his new Super-Dooper Turbocharged MegaBong out for a test spin.

Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner.
Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.

Your perceptions are your perception, mine are mine.

That's almost as profound as the old standby, "You'd have done the same thing if you were me."

Yup, or "this will hurt you more then it hurts me." That saw of mine is old, but still appropriate in here when people confuse opinion differences with freind/foe on a personal level issues.

Ken Kesey was horrible to be around after his son died in a crash on his way to a University of Oregon wrestling match. He would reflexively attack and verbally maim anyone and everyone around him.

So much so it was very epic, Ken never did anything halfway. (This was a couple of years before I met him and started being a regular at his ranch in Pleasant Hill.)

A woman whom he scorched severely verbally one too many times finally got to him in a way that helped his healing process.

She said, and I paraphrase; "Ken, you can attack us all you want, but it is of no use. It doesn't matter what you or do to attack us with slights and snarls. We still love you and refuse to do otherwise, deal with it."

It was one of many things talked about allot at his wake, and he himself said that impacted him hard and made a difference. Ken had been a UO wrestler himself and it was like part of him died in that crash.

There is a bronze relief sculpture at the summit that is a memorial for Ken Kesey’s son Jed and Lorenzo West. Jed and Lorenzo were killed on the way to a wrestling match when the van they were in encountered white-out conditions and plunged over a 300 foot cliff.

Cliches are never appropriate, but have fun tossing them about. We realize the source.

"We realize the source."

Likewise, I'm sure. That's also a good one.

Cliché is a French word, careful now. Using French might make you appear communist and a cheese lover to some in here. We wouldn't want that now. ;-D

Heh, I was gone that weekend to Seattle, I never said I would use the filter to put him on bozo, now did I?

The entire forum was on bozo because I knew I wouldn't be near a computer until I cam back home.

Pretty much because of your windmill jousting on an issue about the bozo I knew it would get a rise out of you to frame my "later, sucka" comment that way, my bad.

Oh well. So sue me.

Thanks, corrected it.
