Duckworth comments on consideration for Senate

By Alexis Hunt

Saturday, November 08, 2008 at 9:48 p.m.

QUINCY, IL -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.

Duckworth made an appearance in Saturday's Veterans' parade in Quincy. We asked her about the possibility of filling Obama's seat.

"The Governor's office confirmed yesterday that he is considering me and I am deeply honored jus to be considered. I hope whoever is selected is someone who is willing to travel around the state and gets to know this wonderful state. I'm just honored to be considered," Duckworth said.

The governor expects to make his decision before Christmas. Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

sensationalistic cut and paste.

Bullhockey.

Axelrod changed his story to make it sound as though the Obama camp had no contact with Blago about the Senate seat. The quote, "I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening" is just the usual oily words that come from the Frontman-elect.

Most anyone reading those words would assume that Obama and Axelrod are on the same page.

I'm a big fan of both. The comment was directed towards cynicom as he holds himself to be a respectable and dignified elder on the forum. Just pointing out the hypocrisy as he can't allow vulgarity and his comments are certainly in the same category. You go ahead with whatever names you want to call any public official and especially government officials...you won't hear any complaining here. However, the blatant racism makes the forum look like it has plenty of resident cranks. Maybe it's an all-white forum and I'm not clued in?

www.breakthematrix.com/Ec...ind-Threat-of-Martial-Law

In an interview with Pat Campbell of KFAQ out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Senator Inhofe (R-OK) revealed Secretary of the Treasury, Hank Paulson as the person who was feeding Congress threats of Martial Law in America if the bailout failed to pass. This also sheds new light on Representative Brad Sherman’s (D-CA) comments on the house floor.

During the KFAQ radio interview, Pat Campbell said:

“Somebody in D.C. was feeding you guys quite a story prior to the bailout, a story that if we didn’t do this we were going to see something on the scale of the depression, there were people talking about martial law being instituted, civil unrest….who was feeding you guys this stuff?,”

Senator Inhofe responded saying:

“That’s Henry Paulson, we had a conference call early on, it was on a Friday I think – a week and half before the vote on Oct. 1. So it would have been the middle … what was it – the 19th of September, we had a conference call. In this conference call – and I guess there’s no reason for me not to repeat what he said, but he said – he painted this picture you just described. He said, ‘This is serious. This is the most serious thing that we faced.’”

An audio version of Senator Inhofe's remarks in the interview is available at the url.

Fyi, the FBI have been wiretapping conversations that Blago had for the past 5 years. Duh.

And while it's true that today Fitzgerald has said that to his knowledge Obama is not implicated, what about tomorrow when Blago starts singing like a canary to cut a deal?

And how come the Republicans are pressuring Obama to keep Fitzgerald on as a federal prosecutor post W administration? Does the GOP smell blood in the water?

www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16408.html

"Big risks for Obama in Blago scandal"

And what about Obama's close associates - can they link him to Blago's corruption?

www.theage.com.au/world/c...20081210-6vtc.html?page=1

"Could the White House be tainted?"

Some cut and paste:

"...Prosecutors said explicitly on Tuesday: "We make no allegations that he (Obama) was aware of anything."

The former senator also said he had no knowledge of the scheme to sell his spot in the Senate.

But what about his staff and those close to him? His chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, his senior adviser and close friend, Valerie Jarrett, and his senior political adviser, David Axelrod, have been swimming in the same murky waters of Chicago politics for years.

On November 12, Jarrett pulled out of the Senate race, telling the Chicago Tribune by email she was no longer interested.

Had she in fact been approached and been so horrified by Blagojevich's proposal that she had no other option but to pull out? If so, who did she discuss this with? Did she contact the FBI?

Fox News in Chicago suggested that Emanuel may have been the one that tipped off investigators about the Governor's attempts to "monetise" the Senate appointment. If so, then when did he and why?

And what of Axelrod? On Tuesday, the Obama-Biden office issued a media release saying Axelrod was "mistaken" when he told an interviewer last month that the President-elect had spoken directly to Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. "They did not then or at any time discuss the subject," he said.

Obama is not close to Blagojevich, according to local media. But the revelations about the depth of corrupt conduct in Illinois leave one gasping, and asking how Obama could have emerged so squeaky clean and without any knowledge of the dark side of Chicago politics..."
