(CNSNews.com) – A coalition of conservative groups plan to present a petition of 330,000 names to the United Nations on Tuesday, calling for the member states to interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as protecting the unborn from abortion and protecting the traditional family.

The group was formed in response to efforts by pro-abortion groups International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International, which are calling for the right to abortion on declaration’s 60th anniversary.

"We are proud not only to match but far surpass the efforts of pro-abortion groups," said Austin Ruse, president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM), the primary organizer of the petition drive. "We launched our drive only two months ago and have generated more than 300,000 names from all over the world.

Ruse predicted that pro-abortion groups would present a petition as well but said the number of pro-abortion petitioners won’t compare to those of the pro-life cause.

"I suspect that Marie Stopes and IPPF will present a few thousand names. This shows what we have known all along; that abortion is supported mostly by elites while every day people are for protecting the unborn child," Ruse added.

"During a time when family values are under attack in nations and states across the globe, tomorrow should be a celebration of the family, freedom of religion, and marriage between a man and a woman,” Beverly Rice, president of United Families International, said in a statement. UFI has been fighting to protect the family at the UN since 1978.

“Tomorrow should be a declaration that 60 years ago the United Nations stood up for what is most important. Tomorrow we should all feel safe that life, our families, marriages and religions will be protected because of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," Rice said.

"But, instead, we fear tomorrow will just be another day on the battlefield, another day when those who wish to destroy the family will make another attempt. They will use deception as their weapon. Their desire is to create a genderless society that is run by the state – void of religion, marriage and parents," she added.

I really have a problem with "conservatives" or maybe I should say Republicans. They're all for protecting the unborn but then turn right around and ignore the fact that when an innocent pregnant woman gets killed in an undeclared and unjustified war, that's not only abortion, it's also murdering the mother.

All they can do is mutter "collateral damage" or "these things happen in war."

Pure self-deception and rationalization is what it is.

You're right.

They don't have a problem with this "collateral damage":
