Title: Heart-warming news: Aussie doctor claims he's created the world's healthiest wine that cleans out the arteries

It's the news that everyone who appreciates a glass of wine wants to hear - an Australian doctor and vineyard owner says he has created the world's healthiest drop which reduces the risk of heart attack as you drink it.

As the shiraz or the special chardonnay - a white that has always been said to have little benefit - runs through the body, it cleans the blood vessels and helps keep arteries free of fatty deposits.

Too good to be true? Medical doctor Phillip Norrie says it is true, insisting that his newly-created reds and whites act as a 'vascular pipe-cleaner', ensuring that fatty deposits in blood vessels known as atherosclerotic plaque are washed away.

Dr Norrie says his wines contain 100 times more resveratrol - an antioxidant that clears out the blood vessels and arteries

The secret, says Dr Norrie, who owns a New South Wales vineyard and is the author of books on wine and health, is in the high amount of resveratrol in his creations, a naturally-occurring antioxidant found in grapes.

In fact, each bottle contains up to 100 times more resveratrol than a standard bottle.

The anti-oxidant is odourless and tasteless, so it does not diminish the natural nose and flavour of the wine.

He said: 'While the positive effects of moderate wine consumption have long been documented, the inclusion of such large quantities of this beneficial anti-oxidant is very good news for wine drinkers.

'What we've been able to do is boost the amount of resveratrol in wine and you won't even know it's there - you're effectively clearing your arteries while you drink.'

Dr Norrie is producing a shiraz and a chardonnay, each having 100mg per litre of resveratrol in each bottle.

This was equivalent to someone drinking - or trying to drink - 70 to 100 bottles of standard white wine or 15 to 20 bottles of standard red.

'I stress that these benefits are best realised with moderate drinking,' says Dr Norrie, discouraging anyone thinking of over-indulging for health reasons.

Dr Norrie's announcement has received the support of cardiologist Associate Professor David Colquhoun of the University of Queensland who said studies had strongly suggested that consumption of wine rich in resveratrol can lessen cardio-vascular disease, heart attack and stroke.

But he also stressed the need for moderate consumption.

Dr Norrie has yet to announce when his wine will be available and for how much.

hopefully not a GM product.

Well there is certainly SOMEthing not quite right here. It's not just regular wine. Something is either added or it's GM methinks.

Some reading revealed that the resveratrol is created in vineyards, and in other plants as well, when they are under stress.

Does dude beat his grape vines or something?

In order to understand how much resveratrol is in wine, one must realize that resveratrol is a natural substance made by grapes and other plants in response to fungal infection. How much resveratrol is in a glass of wine depends, first, on whether the grapes were grown organically, and, second, how the wine was made. Grapes sprayed with pesticides that prevent fungal infection contain little, if any, resveratrol. Wines grown in dry climates have less resveratrol than those grown in humid areas. Red wines contain more than white because of how red wine is made. The end result of all of this is that organic red wines from certain areas of Europe contain the highest level of resveratrol. But most wines contain either no resveratrol at all, or very little (less than a milligram per glass).

The only sure way to obtain a certain amount of resveratrol daily is to take a standardized extract. Standardization ensures a consistent amount of resveratrol with consistent high quality. The finest resveratrol available comes from Europe. It is made from organic French grapes known for their high resveratrol content. The resveratrol is carefully extracted to retain other compounds (polyphenols) that naturally occur with it. This pharmaceutical wine extract is then enhanced with resveratrol extracted from the roots of a medicinal plant (Polygonnum cuspidatum) used for centuries in Asia for the treatment of inflammation, heart, blood vessel and liver disease, skin and lipid problems. The result is a product that retains the active parts of wine in a natural balance with increased potency and consistent quality.

Gee talk about contradiction. From the commonly held notion that "ALL red wine contains it," to "most do not have any." Sheeesh...how can we ever know anything..

EDIT: No wonder!! This site is a sales site for supplements and is not to be believed. "Most wines contain little or none" my ASS. They just want to sell their shit like Dr Mercola.
