KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The top U.S. military officer says that up to 30,000 new American troops could be sent to Afghanistan next year. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen said on a visit to Kabul that between 20,000 and 30,000 additional U.S. troops could be sent to Afghanistan by summer. U.S. commanders have long requested an additional 20,000 troops to bolster the 31,000 U.S. forces already in the country. But the high end of Mullen's range - 30,000 additional forces - is the largest number any top U.S. military official has said publicly. Mullen says that after those troops are added, only improvements in Afghanistan's governance and economic situation will affect the strength of the insurgency. Poster Comment: Vast. One of the positions I took w/the anti-war hypocrites at the Nest was their position (or lack thereof) regarding the war in Afghanistan. While the "thoughtful posters" you miss so dearly were being lied to by Obama, I and others were saying he was going to reignite the mess in Afghanistan. Can you please explain why American troops are there, and why does Obama want a larger war?

When the Os were in full adoration mode, we told them He was going to do this. They either ignored us, or tried to tell us how strategic another war was. What a crock. I hope their kids get drafted and shafted.
It will be interesting in time to come how O' Piles will justify 30,000 more Americans in Afghan.
They'll ignore the entire event. They have developed an amazing filtering ability.
Perhaps you recall the military telling LBJ we need another 20,000 every few months until we had 250,000 men in Vietnam???? As the number of troops increased the numbers of voters and cheerleaders for LBJ decreased. Amazing.
