Thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhppppp! See the spot on the map on the upper Willamette Valley that says "23" - well add six inches of snow and freezing rain coating the top 1/4 to 1/2 inch and you can get a feel for what it is like here now. I'm surprised with all the ice, knock on wood, that there aren't more power lines down. The tree in my back yard is looks like it is made of crystal, and my hands are just defrosting from from scraping the sidewalk. So, all I have to say is: THHHHHHHHHHHHPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Edit: I should add that with the north wind and driving snow the wind chill was in the sub-zero range last night.
hold your Thhhhhhhhhhhppppp. that was yesterday. at the moment, we're 42 degrees. it's windy though, so it feels colder.
My heart's breaking. Currently we're at 25 with a wind chill of 17. Another quarter to half inch of ice is expected followed by 2 to 4 inches of snow to give it a nice "topcoat". And Thhhhhhhhpppppp! :-) Edit: My poor neighbor has a "heat pump" and the ice is clogging the fan and the uptake. He has to go out every now and then to clear off the ice to keep it running.
Still about 50,000 people going on their TENTH consecutive day without power hre in the Worker's Paradise of New England. Hopefully; the 12 to 16 inches of snow we are getting tonight will provide some insulation, because it's headed to zero overnight with a tropical 40 MPH wind out of the balmy northwest.

Oooooooooooh! That sounds like fun. Can we build a snow fort? Can we? Can we? Can we? I'm glad I (that is how far I got when the power went out). I was starting to say I'm glad that I haven't lost power. We were not out long. PGE is pretty good at staying on top of things. Although with all the ice and snow I'm sure there are lines down somewhere. They (PGE) were rated the number one most reliable power company in the U.S. a year or two ago. Of course ideally I would like to be off grid with plenty of back-up capability. Not hard to do - just add money - and then some more money. I have the skills and knowledge to design most of the generation system myself, but would need to do some boning up for the distribution system and AC generation. I know enough to build a 12 volt DC system as-is but my stereo needs AC and I can live without TV but not my audio system.
