Hannukah: A Nonsensical Talmudic Holiday

Hannukah is a typical rabbinic charade. It takes the Biblical story of the Maccabees and embroiders it with fantasy. After their victory in 165 B.C., the Jews retook control of the remains of the temple, but it had been defiled. They wanted to rekindle its eternal flame, but they found only one small flask of consecrated oil. According to the Talmud, that small supply, enough for only one day, miraculously lasted for eight, which gave the Jews time to prepare new oil. And which gave the world Hanukkah, meaning "dedication" or "consecration" in Hebrew.

There is no oil that lasted eight days in the Biblical text. This story first appeared in the Talmud, which was concocted by rabbis who lived in Babylon after the destruction of the Temple.

The nonsensical miracle of the oil hoax has led to the rabbinic custom of eating foods fried in oil for Hanukkah. In the United States, the most popular is latkes, (potato pancakes).

The pagan/Babylonian root of Hannukah can be glimpsed in the fact that during Hannukah Talmudic children play a gambling game with a dreidel, a spinning top. Each side has a Hebrew letter. In most places, the letters spell "A Great Miracle Happened There."

In San Francisco for several years a huge Hannukah menorah was displayed in Union Square while the square had no Christian Nativity scene.

Traditionally in Judaism, Hannukah was a very minor observance. The contemporary emphasis on Hannukah was created as a rival to Christmas observances.

ADL's "December Dilemma"

"...In the context of displays on public property, the Supreme Court has ruled that a Christmas crèche standing alone is impermissible, but a Christmas tree is permissible because it has become such a secular symbol of the winter holiday season. 23 It also has found that a Chanukah menorah is a symbol with both secular and religious meanings, and its display on public property within a predominantly secular display is permissible. 24

Due the impressionability of school children, the Supreme Court has noted that a holiday display of a Chanukah menorah and secular symbols such as a Christmas tree could raise additional constitutional concerns. 25 However, lower courts have not invalidated such displays and it's likely that they are permissible....."

I love potato pancakes. Every one I've ever eaten has lasted eight days.

If those of the Jewish faith want to celebrate Hannukah then that is their business. Unfortunately Christmas also has a substantial amount of pagan elements and it has become a day of Santa and gift giving and has lost much of the real meaning why it should be observed.

shit, if you think a burning bush is god, then follow some 'glowing pillar' or whatever through the desert, chances are a flagon of oil is probably god too.

if a people will not prosecute officials who subvert and violate the constitution, then the constitution has no authority over officials.

This is just me, but if it weren't for the cookies, grog, the movie Elf, football and presents you could roll up all these holidays and blow them to hell.

It's safe to go shopping in the CenTex - zero beanies spotted this evening, but it's so danged overcast, who knows when is sundown here.

What an insane time of the year.

I have my Man Cave, complete with an HDTV with every digital channel known to man, some books, a cell phone, a short-wave radio, my guns, candy and the number to the local pizza parlor written on the wall in crayon. I'm good to go.

When I eventually make it to CenTx, lets hook up and put a hurting on a bottle of Beefeater's. We'll need some meat and some greens to complete my idea of a lovely meal.

I agree on all points. However, their holiday based on lies should not be allowed to push ours based on the birth of Christ aside in this country founded in Christ's name.
