My nephew, a Kansas State Trooper, sent me the following essay this morning. Thought it was well worth posting here.

Finally. . . A statement about guns that makes a lot of sense.

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single gay guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

I beg to differ. I also find it ironic that this comes from a punk with a badge.

He's forgetting about having a willingness to use deadly force to kill. That seems to be a rather important variable in this equation. They are NOT on equal footing just because they are armed.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force.

Ya think so? Do you have a magical gun? What a dumbass this guy is. Typical, for a pig.

iow, were the commentary written by a citizen rather than a LEO, who by virtue of his badge can use force, it would be advocating exercising our 2A right of self protection.

I originally read this several years ago and never linked it to law enforcement. It was used as a VERY pro 2nd amendment response as to why an armed society is a polite society. I think the article is right on the money and I know of several LEO's that are VERY pro guns...after all, they are, for the most part, folks just like you and me. That's not to say, there aren't a number of rogue elements in these depts. I firmly believe when push comes to shove, there are going to be a lot of folks dressed in blue, and camo, siding with the American people. The corruption from our leaders has gotten so blatant and so systemic, that the theft, lies, deceit, and collapse of the economy has woken a lot of folks up...even those in the military and LEO's. No one said this was going to be easy...this is a deadly serious situation we find ourselves in, but we have the Constitution, BOR and truth on our side...AND we are the most heavily armed population on planet earth. Have faith...we have been told this days were coming... Also...Christine, wishing you and yours and blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year!! :?)

I don't recall ever lying to cover up for an employees illegal actions. Or keeping my mouth shut when someone abuses their authority. I've never perjured myself to frame someone, or extorted money to pay for a non-crime.

Fuck them. They are just revenue generators. Hassling people over things that arent even crimes. Being nothing but fucking bullies with badges.

They aren't like me. What a pile of horse shit that is! The so-called "good cops" are nothing but enablers for the bad cops. 2 sides to the same worthless coin. They all enable those that want more power over us. Do you really think I give 2 shits how "good" they are?

You tell your "good cop" friends that they better pray and pray hard that there is no breakdown, and if there is to strip out of their uniforms and let their little balls flap in the breeze running all the way home. and to keep their heads down real low.

And they better forget the Nuremberg Defense. It didn't work then, and it wont work now.

Apathy, and the need to keep the paycheck coming in...that's what has gotten us to this point. Everybody that votes for these globalists leaders in BOTH parties are to blame, cops not wanting to "make waves", people buying "junk" from China because it's cheap, people voting for the crooks that promise to "redistribute" the wealth of hard working people, people who have tolerated open borders and the flood of illegal aliens with their crime, disease and the rape of the tax payers, people that have tolerated this "fiat monetary system" and the off shoring of our factories and jobs.

Our "leaders" get "blow jobs" in the oval office, OUR HOUSE, and the people sit back and tolerated it. We tolerate the murder of 50,000,000 babies and the torture of innocent people in the name of fighting this fake war on terror. We tolerate "no knock" raids on our neighbors homes, only to find out the authorities had the wrong house...after they shot the dog and beat the husband and wife.

We tolerated Waco and Ruby Ridge and watched 17 little children under the age of 5 being incinerated...We are about to have a communinist/marxist step into the White House and we know nothing about him...no medical records, no college records, no birth certificate.

I hear you PSUSA...loud and clear...and I'm NOT making excuses for these punks with badges...not one, but their ARE some good men and women out there that serve. The fact is, we are ALL responsible for where we are today...and it's going to take a major effort to right the sinking ship. Don't let the hate and anger get you...if you do, they already won. We know what needs to be done...and we have truth on our side...just a thought...most of all, have a wonderful Christmas!!!

Invite them to debate here. Out in the open. We'll see how "good" they are. They can present their side of the story. I can't wait until they bring up the "just obeying orders" cop out.

Hate and anger are the end result of putting up with their crap, not just them but also everyone else that has gotten us into this mess. Hate and anger as natural as breathing. I'll quit hating when they quit breathing.

But unless you too are a cop or politician or bankster, I dont include you in this, so I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas too. I just hope we get another one next year.
