I acidentally missed a payment on a credit card. Washington Mutual, actually, which is one of those sleazy places that got a bailout and won't tell what they did with the money. I get a call on my cellphone and it's them. That mystified me. Only six people have my cell number, and WaMu is not one of them. So how did they get my number?
Then it occured to me. I had called their automated system a few times to check on my account, and their system memorized my number.
When I checked on the internet, people were claiming WaMu was reequesting permission to take money out of their checking accounts. They already had their checking account numbers and transit numbers.
That's the main reason I deal in cash and money orders, and have no personal checking account.
At this rate, I'm going to close down my savings account and keep the cash in a box under the bed, and not deal with banks at all.
Looks like I'm going to have to change my cell phone number, too. And never, never call a corporation from it ever again.
