Questions to ask a pastor to get "the boot".

Is Scripture true? If so, then

John 3: 16 says:

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

So, according to orthodox Christianity, all a person needs to do is believe? And they can do this thru their own wills?

Then how about John 1 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

So much for our "will", right?

OK then, just a little further into that book, we have this scripture which, unlike John 3:16, I have never heard taught in a sermon:

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

So, how then can anyone believe, when God has not called him to believe? Is God a respecter of persons? Not according to Acts 10:34 He isn't.

Please explain this apparent discrepancy.

Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

Here's another gem that I have yet to hear taught in a sermon. In fact, I constantly heard the opposite, that Jesus taught in parables so everyone could understand them.

According to orthodox Christianity, Jesus has just sentenced these people to be burned in real fire for an endless amount of time. Is Jesus a monster? No? Then please explain this apparent favoritism and discrepancy.

Please explain the differences between the called and the elect, and what their purposes are.

This is another one that preaches pointedly ignore.

2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The word translated as "world" is

G165 a???´? aio¯n ahee-ohn' From the same as G104; properly an age; by extension perpetuity (also past); by implication the world; specifically (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future): - age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-]ever, (beginning of the, while the) world (began, without end). Compare G5550.

and in the same book is translated as "forevermore" and "forever". How can this be???

And the definition of this word is about as nonsensical as one can possibly get. An age does not mean perpetuity, "world" is a noun, an age is not eternal or forever.

If none of these get you kicked out of babylon, I can post more as I am led to do so. There is so much more. If you really want to tick off your pastor, do a word study on "eternal" and "hell" and show him that these words dont even belong in scripture.

Nehemiah 4:14 And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Turtle once worked for a former minister and found him to be retarded. Turtle no longer listends to ministers or goes to church.

Now that I think about it, I never listened to ministers or pastors no matter how young I was.

Have pug, will laugh.

The older I get, the more I see that men cannot prosper without a moral compass in life. They may get rich, but they will not prosper, if you get my drift.

There are good basic beliefs that are propagated in basic Christian teaching ("love thy neighbor," "love thine enemies," "do unto others") but when you peer deeply in between the covers of scripture and its translations there's lots to give a man pause.

It's no wonder that reading the Bible was banned for ordinary people for ages by the Church.

As usual, I'm trying to get some work done on the computer on a weekend day, and I get ambushed by my interest in these threads. I'm going to look into these verses when I get time and give you my take. Sorry if I have no better intelligible reply, and thanks for posting these NT verses and your questions.

As Hitler said, "How fortunate for leaders that men do not think". Just dress some flamer up in vestments with their fancy robes and jewels and hats and stoles, and have them point to pages in the Babble and say "What this REALLY means is..." and you'll find 98% of the population will just eat it up with a spoon. People are a lot like dogs in that regard, whatever the "alpha" says or does is good enough for them, no matter how contradictory or ridiculous it may be.

Gold and silver are REAL money, paper is but a promise.

Thoughtful and stimulating.

As a child I also learned that we cannot get to Heaven by living right and doing good deeds.

It's not enough.

And, today's organic Christian message strongly hints that we can't get there without fellowship and getting our tickets punched by the CEO of a 501 (c)(3) corporation, either.

And that ain't free.

So, if you happen to live the life of a hermit, away from people and without the benefit (I mean blessing) of clergy to lead you through the rituals (you know, like becoming a 3rd degree Mason) and your time comes to move on, then Mister, you're screwed.

Greetings 'Dawg.

Organized Christianity is hard to understand for many people including me.

It seems that the "disorganized" Christians are the ones most strongly standing up for the Constitution and liberty. I'm not very religious, but I'll take my stand with them.

Happy New Year, BTW.
