Title: Conservative Columnist Tony Blankley: Draft Is Needed Because We May Have To Invade Pakistan

Conservative columnist Tony Blankley foresees a dangerous future, in which the United States will be able to ensure its own survival only through a universal military draft and may routinely have to commit hundreds of thousands of troops to overseas excursions, including a potential invasion of Pakistan.

Blankley, a former Reagan speechwriter and Newt Gingrich press secretary, is the author of The West's Last Chance: Will We Win the Clash of Civilizations? (2005) which raised the specter of a Europe dominated by radical Islam. His new book is called American Grit.

"If we don't do a lot of things smart and tough, we could get overwhelmed," Blankley told the hosts of Fox & Friends on Monday. "We've failed to exploit our energy. We're not paying enough attention to what our kids are learning -- Bill Ayers is actually a senior person in guiding the curriculum design of America."

One of Blankley's more eye-catching proposals in American Grit is that all eighteen year olds should be subject to two years of required military service.

"I don't like it, I love the volunteer army ... but we don't have enough troops," Blankley explained. "When George Bush wanted to have the surge, he was told by the senior generals we didn't have the extra 20,000 troops to finish the war. ... Now Obama wants to go to Afghanistan ... but he says we don't have the troops unless we pull them out of Iraq. What happens if Pakistan goes jihad-y? We don't have the troops to go in there and stop them from taking over the nuclear weapons."

"If we had had enough troops in Iraq, we wouldn't have lost 4,000 great young men and women," Blankley concluded. "We needed to flood the field ... with 300,000 troops occupying every village and every building and they would never have been able to rise up."

It seems possible, however, that Blankley is promoting a universal military draft not just as the necessary pre-requisite for adventures overseas but also as a means of making young Americans "grittier."

In a Washington Times editorial, written just before November's election, Blankley bemoaned the endorsement of Obama by "me-too conservatives" and suggested that "the conservative movement we start re-building on the ashes of November 4th (even if Mr. McCain wins) will have little use for over-written, over-delicate commentary."

"The new conservative movement will be facing a political opponent that will soon reveal itself to be both multiculturalists and Euro-socialist," Blankley wrote. "We will be engaged in a struggle to the political death for the soul of the country. ... I will certainly do what I can to make it a big-tent conservative movement. But just as in every great cause, one question has to be answered correctly: Whose side are you on, comrade?"

a. Blankley, a former Reagan speechwriter

b. "If we had had enough troops in Iraq, we wouldn't have lost 4,000 great young men and women," Blankley concluded. "We needed to flood the field ... with 300,000 troops occupying every village and every building and they would never have been able to rise up."

a. Reagan loathed the draft and spoke out against it. How did Blankley stay in his job as Reagan's speech writer, without absorbing some of Reagan's views on the subject?

b. Oh yes, this is a very practical thing to do when you have started a war for lies, get more US soldiers killed for nothing. Put more targets on the ground - that was such a successful strategy in Vietnam, another illegal war we under took for lies.

c. Why discriminate based on age? Heck, Tony, let's have ALL able-bodied Americans ages 18-63 be subject to 2 years of compulsory military service and since the men and women at the high end of the age scale are no longer productive members of society and are nearing a time when they'll be drawing health and pension benefits and be a draw on society, let's subject ages 50 - 63 first, with your fat ass leading the way. Left, right, Tony, left, right.

Neoconservatives like to enlist Reagan as one of theirs, which is easy to do when someone's dead and not able to disagree. They conveniently ignore the fact that Reagan was not only against the draft, but was a true believer in multilateral nuclear disarmament (unlike the neocons, who think that only the countries they don't like should be prevented from having nukes).

We get them from everywhere and in Tony's case the source country of this fast-talking neocon pig was Britain. This fat porker wasn't even born in the USA.

And catch this, Tony Blankley was admitted to the bar in 1972 so he was of the right age to join America's war against the eeevil communists in Vietnam and he chose not to do so but rather to attend law school...like America was in need of more lawyers at the time.

And what luck, that Lard Butt Tony wasn't drafted - maybe he had pimples on his butt like Rushbo???

Who the fudge is this military-dodging punk who himself was allergic to war when he was 18, to promote the need for "compulsory military service" for today's 18 year old's???

Says “new American nationalism” needed for survival

A Washington Times columnist has claimed that a universal military draft is a key necessity if America is to survive throughout and beyond the 21st century.

Tony Blankley, also a former Reagan speechwriter, a former Newt Gingrich press secretary, and currently a Fellow at right wing think tank the Heritage Foundation, makes the call in his new book American Grit.

Blankley says that the US needs a “new nationalism that puts America’s survival first.”

In his opinion this equates to subjecting all eighteen year olds to two years of required military service.

“If we don’t do a lot of things smart and tough, we could get overwhelmed by the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of radical Islam.” Blankley told the hosts of Fox & Friends on Monday.

“We’ve failed to exploit our energy. We’re not paying enough attention to what our kids are learning — Bill Ayers is actually a senior person in guiding the curriculum design of America.” he said.

“I don’t like it, I love the volunteer army … but we don’t have enough troops,” Blankley stated.

“When George Bush wanted to have the surge, he was told by the senior generals we didn’t have the extra 20,000 troops to finish the war. … Now Obama wants to go to Afghanistan … but he says we don’t have the troops unless we pull them out of Iraq. What happens if Pakistan goes jihadi? We don’t have the troops to go in there and stop them from taking over the nuclear weapons.”

“If we had had enough troops in Iraq, we wouldn’t have lost 4,000 great young men and women,” Blankley claimed. “We needed to flood the field … with 300,000 troops occupying every village and every building and they would never have been able to rise up.”

Watch the video:

Blankley has previously rejected that notion that he is a neoconservative, claiming that he is a traditional conservative in the mold of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

However, his militaristic views clearly dovetail with classic neoconservative doctrine espoused by bodies such as the Project For A New American Century, the think tank that was home to Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz among others, prior to their placements within the Bush Administration.

Using rhetoric almost identical to the neocon label “Islamofascist”, Blankley has previously compared modern Islamists to Nazis, claiming that they are attempting to take over Europe. Blankley has also argued that racial and ethnic profiling are regrettable but acceptable government practices in times of war.

Blankley’s previous book, The West’s Last Chance: Will We Win the Clash of Civilizations?, even cites Samuel P. Huntington, author of Clash Of Civilizations, regarded by many to be one of the archetypal neocon texts.

By "we" I am sure you are saying you will be included, fat Tony. Please take fat Rush with you. He so wanted to serve in Vietnam but that boil on his butt made it impossible.

I am all in favor of a draft that goes in reverse order agewise, beginning at age 65 and working its way down. This will give a lot of the Baby Boomers a chance to redeem themselves for having dodged the draft 40 years ago. Most of them have been bleating about what a noble cause it was ever since.

Neocon Blankley Wants to Bring Back the Draft

January 13, 2009 in News by Eric Garris | 26 comments

Washington Times columnist and former editor Tony Blankley is calling for bringing back the military draft.

He says a draft would have prevented so many American deaths in Iraq, and would allow us to escalate in Afghanistan and possibly invade Pakistan.

Blankley is saying that the problem with US foreign policy is that Americans don57;t support it. They must be forced into supporting it, via slavery and coercive taxation.

Tony left out a crucial fact: how are muslim tribesmen from the other side of the planet a threat to America?? I'm just asking the obvious.....

Great minds think alike and yours was pithier. And exposing the unfairness of selectively picking on a young age group to bear the burden of wars concocted by fat useless old men needs to be done over and over again so more people realize how anti-freedom and anti-civil rights conscription is.

I think that's a great idea, but I'd include one modification: Everyone from ages 18 to 63 get a draft number, and then we start drafting them in, but NOT on the basis of their number or their age, but on the basis of their net wealth. Those worth the most go first, since they have obviously benefited the most from American society, and have the most to defend. Bill Gates goes first, then we work our way down the line.

What do you want to bet we'd become the most peace-loving non-aggressive empire in the history of the universe within the first ninety days of this draft being enacted? Talk about "giving peace a chance". Imagine a world where the US doesn't fight wars any more, and doesn't spend more on its military than the rest of the world combined. Want to see it become reality? Enact my plan, and sit back and enjoy the peace dividend for decades to come.

Gold and silver are REAL money, paper is but a promise.

LOL! Good one. I agree that people who trot out this plan/scheme to force people into involuntary servitude should present themselves as the good example everyone should follow. I think Tony would find he had urgent business elsewhere if they called him up.

But my personal favorite is wannabe macho, warmongering blowhard Ted Nugent. He goes around saying how he wishes he could be in Afghanistan or Iraq to "KILL! KILL! KILL!" Ted had his opportunity to "kill, kill, kill" during the Vietnam war - during which time he too dodged the draft.
