It is hilarious and ironic in the modern sense of irony that the GOP so earnestly courted the immigrant vote by purging from its own ranks the last vestiges of nativism, only to find that for immigrants and blacks, who are government clients, its really about the STUFF. Democrats promise more of it than Republicans. The small government mantra (which is merely lip service to the GOP) has less than no appeal to people who are net beneficiaries of Big Guv. Meanwhile, the rhetoric of the GOP is designed to captivate the so-called values voters, while also engineered to ensure the value votes in Congress are never delivered. The demographic tsunami wave has begun to break on the last outpost of the Republican party, whose outgoing shill is probably only slightly more popular than Richard Nixon on his departure -and they (meaning the Chosen in Hollywood) just made another hatchet film on Nixon thats making best picture noise. There are certain known elements that never tire of whipping on poor, dead Tricky Richard, where by association with whomever the hapless Publicans present, they can hang him around the neck of the GOP in perpetuity. What is clear is that, as it exists, the GOP is dead, and deserves to be. It has become the party of Big Government (though it vies with the Democrats for this distinction), the party of personal scandal, the party of exporting democracy at a great cost in civilian casualties and needless military blood spilled, the party of obfuscation, the party of border insecurity, the party of reckless expenditure of public treasure, the party of pork, the party of prevarication on matters of morality and policy, the party of privacy invasion, and on, and on. In other words, the party of Woodrow Wilson. Will there be a recrudescence of traditional values and a party to defend them that is capable of winning elections? The demographic trends say no. But with God all things are possible.

Hasten the day. Nothing would please me more than to see the GOP tossed into the ashcan of history. Well, that and seeing Bush and the neocons rounded up and brought to trial.
