A man who said he robbed a downtown Shreveport bank because he was out of a job and hungry has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for first-degree robbery.

Roy Brown, 54, of Audrey Lane, pleaded guilty in Caddo District Court to robbing the Capital One bank in December 2007.

Brown admitted walking up to a teller with one of his hands under his jacket and telling her it was a "stickup." The teller handed the man three stacks of bills and he took a single $100 bill, told her he was homeless and left, police said.

Brown surrendered to police the next day, telling them his mother didn't raise him that way.

Police let him sober up and interviewed him two days later. Police said Brown told them he needed money to stay in a downtown detox center, had nowhere to stay and was hungry -- so he walked up the street and robbed the bank.

NO good deed ever goes unpunished in today's society. Ever. Don't ever forget it. 15 years because he was drunk, took 100 bucks, gave it back and turned himself in? It never should have gone to trial. What kind of monkeys were on this jury?? (Same kind that make up the majority population in the US: IDIOTS)

Moral of the story: If you're going steal, think BIG and don't give any of it back...

He deserved better.

I disagree. The moral of the story to me is: this country is fucked. We need to rebuild. The sooner the crash happens, the sooner we can start. We are going to use up a lot of ammo. (for foraging purposes, of course...) (think I fooled anyone???)

15 years because he was drunk, took 100 bucks, gave it back and turned himself in? It never should have gone to trial.

The punishment is totally disproportionate to the crime, just as the punishment of 4 years for a theft of 500 MILLION dollars is totally disproportionate for THAT crime.

The two should be reversed, where ok, the guy robbed a bank BUT he only took one bill from a stack of three simply because he was in desparate need, so he SHOULD get SOME form of punishment for resorting to bank robbery, but it should be relatively minor due to his situation and the fact he wasn't armed.

However, those who steal 500 MILLION dollars, not because they are in desparate need, but see it as a form of business venture that will buy them more luxury and power, then THEY deserve AT LEAST 15 years.

Unfortunately, it's not who's the bigger crook that matters, it's who can afford the best lawyers and what their "connections" can do for them.

The man pleaded guilty. I'm not sure of the details of the law there, but this could be a case where the crime with which the man was charged was too severe, and perhaps he did not have adequate representation.

Obviously not what THEY deserve. Those who are responsible for the wholesale fleecing of the American People deserve life imprisonment. Of course, much of that fleecing goes hand and hand with treason, and I think we all know what the penalty for that is.

A. First degree robbery is the taking of anything of value belonging to another from the person of another, or that is in the immediate control of another, by use of force or intimidation, when the offender leads the victim to reasonably believe he is armed with a dangerous weapon.

B. Whoever commits the crime of first degree robbery shall be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than three years and for not more than forty years, without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of imposition or execution of sentence.

A lot could ride in a case like this on his demeanor at the time of the robbery, as shown on a security camera and teller testimony; did he hand over a note saying he had a "gub", or was the teller genuinely frightened?

But he plead guilty.

The memory of the Heroic Age was eagerly seized by all who could take power, by fair means or foul, but that age could not be recaptured, and despite the temporary improvements... the racial material on which they had to work was of little value, and their efforts bore no fruit after their own demise.

There may be some politics involved in this case.

The Democrat D.A. Paul Carmouche failed in his run for congress, in part because of accusations that he is easy on criminals ("cut 'em loose Carmouche" was the catch phrase.) Carmouche asked for the 15 year sentence.

Prior to being elected Caddo Parish District Attorney, Paul practiced law in private practice, served as an Assistant District Attorney and served as Chief Counsel for the Caddo Indigent Defender’s Office.

Now that's funny!

If only he had a degree, a nice suit and a briefcase instead of dirty clothes, a snootful of alcohol, and a finger. A competent attorney would have helped too, maybe.

Wow. 15 years for stealing 100 dollars. And the guy who steals 500 million gets four years. Are we in "Les Miserables" territory yet?

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread." - Anatole France

"There are many pleasant fictions of the law in constant operation, but there is not one so pleasant or practically humorous as that which supposes every man to be of equal value in its impartial eye, and the benefits of all laws to be equally attainable by all men, without the smallest reference to the furniture of their pockets." - Charles Dickens, "Nicholas Nickleby"

Midway had Winchester 748 powder the other day so I bought some. Now I have to find some more primers...

I'm listening to Alex Jones right now (replay of today's show) and he's talking about a bill in the house that would effectively kill the rkba.

I'm sitting here thinking how much fun it is going to be to turn in my guns, bullets first.

I shall not vote for evil, lesser or otherwise.

ROFL!!! I occasionally stick my head in the local Wal-Mart for some fishing tackle and I cringe at the white trash and turd-world-babbling that surrounds me, and I'm talking about a Wal-Mart on the edge of a very affluent town. I'd reject about 90% of the people I see to sit on a jury for anything other than traffic court.

I emailed my local idiot "conservative" radio host on WTIC, Ray Donovan, about this.

Doubt that he'll mention it.

Haven't emailed the resident Zionist Host, Jim Vicevich recently. He states that he is a "stock market advisor." The popularity of this person is beyond my expectations. His program is now extended to 3 hours from 2.

Really?? I dress professionally when the occasion calls for it. When somebody shows up in inappropriate attire I pass judgement on them right off the bat if they don't offer a good reason for not exercising enough intelligence to dress likewise. It's 2009: if somebody can walk around with a cellphone glued to their ear then they can afford to buy a set of Sunday- meeting clothes. Goodwill and the Salvation Army store carry used slacks and shirts that will suffice if one uses their noggin. If that makes me some sort of snob so be it, I'm comfortable living in my skin with my prejudices and convictions.
