“He Created It Not in Vain”

Will Earth Be Ruined in Nuclear War?

ONE reason Jehovah’s Witnesses publish this journal is to assure its readers that the world is not going to end in a nuclear holocaust. Whether one or more nations may try out their nuclear bombs, we do not know. But a nuclear holocaust—we do not look for that. That would ruin the earth. God’s work of creation would then be ruined. His Word tells us positively: “He created it not in vain.”—Isaiah 45:18, Authorized Version.

We believe that the Son of God meant it when he declared that the meek shall inherit the earth.

We believe that the Father, God the Creator, formed it to be inhabited—in righteousness.

Matthew 5:5 and Isaiah 45:18 state these assurances so emphatically that Jehovah’s Witnesses spent almost 1,000,000 hours every single day last year in personal calls on people in more than 200 lands, relieving the fears of millions of people with those Bible guarantees.

When thinking persons today realize how man has subdued the earth, they shudder. “Nature” is no longer an unquestioned master over man. Man now holds the destiny of life in his hand. Earth needs protection from man.

The present ruining of the earth is not the way man was meant to subdue it. To get man off to a perfect start, to demonstrate how man was to subdue it, “Jehovah God proceeded to take the man and settle him in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and to take care of it.”—Genesis 2:15.

It is rewarding to look more closely at that marvelous beginning in paradise: First, “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.”—Genesis 2:7.

There man stood before his Creator, physiologically adult and mature but lacking in experience and education. God also made the woman, fully developed.

Here were the ultimate life forms on earth, divinely destined to carry out a grand purpose: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.”—Genesis 1:26.

Logically, education began with Lesson Number One: ‘The way of life depends on responding to what I teach you. I have made everything for a purpose and according to fixed principles. Everything you need to know I will teach you. Do not determine within yourselves to direct your course. The way that may seem right in your own determination leads to death.’ (Psalm 36:9; Jeremiah 10:23; Proverbs 3:5, 6) The whole tenor of the Bible bears out that this was the essence of what the man and woman should have discerned from the simple mandate: “As for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”—Genesis 2:17.

No matter how many billions of years the earth might have whirled in space; no matter how many aeons of time God spent in preparing its life processes, the time came when he turned over its keeping to man. He knew this sentient creature of thought and will was capable, sooner or later, of attaining the ultimate power over the earthly creation. But now man has laid hold on such a power with destructive intent.

If you were earth’s creator, what would you do? Would you abandon it to a world of men who imagine that one form of political sovereignty is more important than the well-being of God’s handiwork?

The decision to drop atom bombs does not have to be made by the deliberate and determinate council of well-meaning men. It can be started by a deranged dictator. Or a handful of terrorists. Or even by accident. Three times in recent years American forces have been alerted to an attack threat. Twice it happened because of a faulty chip in a computer. Once somebody mistakenly inserted a test tape depicting a missile attack into the sound system—it scared the North American Air Defense Command into thinking it was for real!

Yes, if you were earth’s creator would you abandon it to caretakers who hang its fate on blind, precarious, frivolous chance?

Men and nations stand guilty before earth’s Owner. They willfully and with violent intent hang the peril of nuclear destruction over the planet. Not one of them is freed of guilt by claiming intent to drop nuclear bombs only in ‘defensive retaliation.’ “It is another nonsensical feature of the nuclear predicament that while each side regards the population of the other side as the innocent victims of unjust government,” observed magazine writer Jonathan Schell, “each proposes to punish the other government by annihilating that already suffering and oppressed population.”—The New Yorker, February 8, 1982.

God will not allow earth’s ruination. He will interfere. He will do so even though that angers every nation on the planet: “The nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time . . . to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”—Revelation 11:18.

You may hear some scoff at the application of Revelation prophecies to modern times. Well, let them challenge the application. Let them put matters to the test. But just as men cannot survive an all-out nuclear war touched off by themselves, neither can they survive “the war of the great day of God the Almighty.”—Revelation 16:13, 14, 16.

That war rids the earth forever of beastly political systems along with “the kings of the earth and their armies.” When it is over even Satan the Devil will be abyssed. It is a discriminate war. It preserves the meek of the earth. They inherit a cleansed earth, not a polluted, irradiated cinder of an earth. Yes, an earth to beautify under a righteous new order ruled from heaven.—Revelation 19:19–20:3; 7:9, 10, 13-17.

Why are Jehovah’s Witnesses confident that the earth will not be ruined by a nuclear holocaust, or by any other means at man’s disposal? Because, even though Adam’s children have on the whole subdued the earth in a disapproved way, there are those who are meek and teachable and amenable to the Creator’s way. They are willing to carry out his purpose to inhabit the earth and take care of it in the way he purposed.—Psalm 37:34.

That kingdom from Daniel 2:44 is already here, and not some future earthly kingdom. It is the kingdom of heaven. Jesus told the disciples the kingdom is founded on him, Jesus Christ, and the gates of hell will never prevail against it.

Oh. Sorry. Guess I missed that part in the history books...... you know, when Jesus Christ crushed and put an end to all of those there kingdoms of the earth.

Ummmm. Can you help me get a handle on that part that I missed and give me a couple of dates as to when it happened? I really do not want to be left out in the dark about such an important event.

Oh, and with that, as was promised, there must be a date when peace broke out all over the earth. I missed that part as well, so, please, help me out here just a little. OK?

Love the sarcasm.

As I said in my earlier post, Jesus' kingdom is spiritual, not earthly. Didn't Jesus say that if his kingdom was earthly, then would his followers fight for him?

Jesus has crushed the other kingdoms because his spiritual kingdom is sovereign and eternal. No one can prevail against it. It is superior to all other earthly kingdoms because his people are found in every kingdom, and earthly kingdoms have no spiritual power over his children.

Didn't Jesus say that if his kingdom was earthly,

Not exactly. He said (in context);

How does the Christian show himself to be “no part of the world”? For example, how should he act with regard to the turbulent politics, revolutions, and wars of our times? The Christian apostle John wrote, in harmony with Jesus’ words above: “Everyone who does not carry on righteousness does not originate with God, neither does he who does not love his brother. For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should have love for one another.” And Jesus himself explained why his disciples did not fight to deliver him, saying: “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought . . . But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” Even with Jesus’ life at stake, those attendants did not get involved in settling the controversy according to the warring ways of the world.—1 John 3:10-12; John 18:36.

Simply put, the purpose for which Jehovah God created this earth has never changed. He placed Adam here to live forever on a paradise earth, and has promised to restore the earth to that condition, resurrect mankind, and, after one further test, restore perfection to us.

Our promised life eternal is to be on this earth. For that to happen, Daniel 2:44 has to refer to an actual event, just as the Great Flood was an actual event. Peace on earth is an actual promise. Jehovah God has permitted people to go their own way for a reason, and that is for those of us who are willing to learn to understand that we do not know how to even direct our own steps. BUT, He will not permit such rebellion to exist forever; thus, it has to end at some point..... ON THIS EARTH.

As an aside, I have seen people speak of how long He has permitted this to continue. But that is only from our viewpoint. Just as He promised Daniel that he would rest for a while, but then would come back; a reference to the promised resurrection.

It has been 1,980 years since Jesus Christ became the Messiah at his baptism by John. Is that a long time? No, not when you understand that God has existed for 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years, and that is just the beginning of His existence. We can not judge the passage of time as Jehovah God judges it, because we have not, as yet, experienced that passage. But, He has promised us that we shall, if we prove ourselves faithful, indeed experience the passage of such time.

What is this further test?

At the end of the 1,000 year reign of King Jesus, before he returns the kingdom to his Father, Satan will be turned loose once again to test those who had been resurrected to see if they had indeed learned to obey and worship the One True God. Those who fail that test will be destroyed along with Satan at the end of the test, and peace will then reign on the earth forever.

I think you are a little bit off on this one. They wont test everyone that has been resurrected. I think it just says the people who hadn't reached an age of accountability and were admitted to heaven. That those will be tested. Tell me with scripture why I am wrong if you believe so,

age of accountability

There is no age of accountability. We are born in iniquity and conceived in sin, according to David in Psalm 51.

We are born sinners. Yes. But when do we become accountable for that sin? I believe there is an age that you become aware and accountable for your sin. I believe I have read it before. Though not in those exact words.

There is no age of accountability. We are born in iniquity and conceived in sin, according to David in Psalm 51.

Here is the answer to that question;

But why are little children also to suffer the wrath of Jehovah’s executioners? Because the Bible shows that children who have not reached the age of accountability share the destiny of their parents. God did not spare babes or little children at the time of the flood; they perished with their parents. The same was true regarding Sodom and Gomorrah and the desolation of the Jewish nation A.D. 70. However, the converse is also true. The Bible assures us that the faithful course of the parents assures the protection of children under the age of accountability.

Therefore, all will be tested, here on this earth. Old Friend, I am sorry to have to be the one to break the news to you, but there ain't no heaven for the vast majority of us. That is not a Bible teaching. In fact, if you believe in an immortal soul and in a heaven, then you believe that Almighty God lied in Genesis;

15 And Jehovah God proceeded to take the man and settle him in the garden of E82;den to cultivate it and to take care of it. 16 And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

There it is, in the Bible, yet people still persist in believing that somehow a part of them will live on after their body dies, which is believing what the serpent told to Eve.

3 Now the serpent proved to be the most cautious of all the wild beasts of the field that Jehovah God had made. So it began to say to the woman: “Is it really so that God said YOU must not eat from every tree of the garden?” 2 At this the woman said to the serpent: “Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat. 3 But as for [eating] of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘YOU must not eat from it, no, YOU must not touch it that YOU do not die.’” 4 At this the serpent said to the woman: “YOU positively will not die. 5 For God knows that in the very day of YOUR eating from it YOUR eyes are bound to be opened and YOU are bound to be like God, KNOWING good and bad.”

We do not have souls; we are living souls;

20 And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, ...

24 And God went on to say: “Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.” ...

... 30 And to every wild beast of the earth and to every flying creature of the heavens and to everything moving upon the earth in which there is life as a soul ...

7 And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. ...

I am going to put up this post right now; John Milton’s Lost Treatise

You will find it quite interesting, I am sure.

OK, your Bible is giving you the wrong information. It is vitally different than the KJV. Wasn't the Jehovah Witness' Bible formulated at the end of the 19th century?

Specifically, God told them they would die. When they ate of the tree, their fellowship with God was broken, and their bodies became spiritually dead. They still had their natural lives.

Old Friend, I am sorry to have to be the one to break the news to you, but there ain't no heaven for the vast majority of us.

That is not very comforting news. Is that because we are outside the 144,000? If you are outside that number too, what is the point of following the Jehovah Witnesses? It's like trying to get in a party you will never get into.

If not many get in to heaven, or 144,000 do, why does John say in Revelation 5:9 that there will be a multitude standing before God of every kindred, nation, people, tongue, race and nation which no man can number? 144,000 is a big number, but easy to number.

Yes, it is. It is quite a bit clearer, but as to different, sorry, but no. As I have told you, I have a dozen different Bibles, and I checked the one I now use against them. No big differences, except the clarity of the writing using modern english.

Old Friend, I am sorry to have to be the one to break the news to you, but there ain't no heaven for the vast majority of us.

Why not? The purpose that Almighty God had for the earth was that it was to be inhabited; that purpose has not changed. That is what we will be doing, according to the Bible.

To go to heaven, you must be a spirit. I am not, and do not expect to be. I expect, according to the Bible, to be right here on this earth, forever. As Jehovah God promised. That is what the resurrection is all about.

How is it a resurrection if you just stay here forever?

The death spoken of in Genisis is the death of our phyiscal bodies. The second death is the end of everything, for those who do not accept the rule of Jehovah God. In Revelation it talks of the Great Crowd who lives through the tribulation; those will never die.

But the resurrection is of all those in the memorial tombs who will be brought back. Everyone who has ever lived is in the memory of Jehovah God, and will be made to stand up (resurrected). It speaks in the Bible that Jehovah even numbers the hairs on our heads. Since He has names for every star ever created (perhaps 1 trillion stars in this galaxy, perhaps 200 billion or more galaxies), remembering us as we are is not big feat for Him.

The bottom line is that there is nothing in the Bible that says that His Purpose for the earth has ever changed, so what He said in Genesis is still valid. The earth is to exist forever and to be inhabited by us.

I do not know if you have read it, but you might check out this post I put up;

Do Not Fall Prey to Modern-Day Judaizers!

The discussion at the end is interesting, to me at least.
