I just did a quick count: Out of the last 25 posts (before I put this one up), 12 were posted by Richard9151 pushing his JW beliefs on everyone else here on the forum. I guess if you can't persuade others by virtue of the content of your words, then just beat everyone into submission with the sheer volume of your long-winded postings, eh?

Seriously though, isn't taking up nearly 50% of the total postings on this forum just a bit.. pushy? Greedy? Proud? Vain? Selfish? Gosh, and here I was thinking that supposedly believing in Christianity was supposed to convince people to not behave that way. Silly me.

Turtle cannot play Bridge, only War and Go Fish.

When he was little, his relatives used to play a bizarre game called "peaknuckle." Turtle still has no idea what it is.

Why is foot pronounced foot and boot pronounced boot ?

Why not pronounce foot like boot and boot like foot or better yet pronounce them the same ?

Obama sends diplomat to Davos to quell trade outrage Day cautiously optimistic after talks with U.S. trade representative about stimulus KEVIN CARMICHAEL AND HEATHER SCOFFIELD February 2, 2009 OTTAWA -- Facing one of his first big diplomatic tests, U.S. President Barack Obama dispatched an official to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in an attempt to quell outrage from Canada and other countries over plans to make "buy American" a stipulation of the U.S.'s multibillion-dollar economic stimulus program. Peter Allgeier, the acting U.S. trade representative, used the annual gathering of the world's leading executives and policy-makers to assure his country's biggest trading partners that Mr. Obama understands concerns that the proposal could spark a trade war that would deepen the global recession. "I'm somewhat, let's say, optimistic at this point that they are sincere, as far as their administration goes in the United States," Canadian Trade Minister Stockwell Day said of his meeting with Mr. Allgeier. "They're looking for a way to deal with this." The goodwill that rose from all corners of the globe at the time of Mr. Obama's inauguration as the first black U.S. president receded because of legislation in Congress that would force officials to choose U.S. companies when allocating billions in planned infrastructure spending.

Ye resident non-theists...

While some of the real religeous oriented folks can hose out the info, my main concern with that approach persisted with is that it often accomplishes the opposite of its intent.

Another believer I'd talked with a lot wrote a good missive on the fact that Christianity is NOT to be spread through fear and coersion, but as Paul [?] stated, by reason. Additionally, people will generally come to you first wanting to know why your so content or happy most, if not all, of the time.

Pascal's wager (the details, not the mere one sentence synopsis that makes it seem like a cop out) sums it up pretty well also.

From Wikipedia...

Pascal then asks the reader to analyze their position. If reason is truly corrupt and cannot be relied upon to decide the matter of God's existence, only a coin toss remains. In Pascal's assessment, placing a wager is unavoidable, and anyone who is incapable of trusting any evidence either for or against God's existence, must at least face the prospect that infinite happiness is at risk. The "infinite" expected value of believing is always greater than the expected value of not believing.

However, Pascal did not treat acceptance of the wager to be in itself sufficient for salvation. In the same note where the wager is found, Pascal goes on to explain that understanding his conclusion is just the impetus for faith, not faith itself:

“ Endeavour then to convince yourself, not by increase of proofs of God, but by the abatement of your passions. You would like to attain faith, and do not know the way; you would like to cure yourself of unbelief, and ask the remedy for it. Learn of those who have been bound like you, and who now stake all their possessions. These are people who know the way which you would follow, and who are cured of an ill of which you would be cured. Follow the way by which they began; by acting as if they believed, bless yourself with holy water, have Masses said, and so on; by a simple and natural process this will make you believe, and will dull you—will quiet your proudly critical intellect...

Now, what harm will befall you in taking this side? You will be faithful, honest, humble, grateful, generous, a sincere friend, truthful. Certainly you will not have those poisonous pleasures, glory and luxury; but will you not have others? I will tell you that you will thereby gain in this life, and that, at each step you take on this road, you will see so great certainty of gain, so much nothingness in what you risk, that you will at last recognize that you have wagered for something certain and infinite, for which you have given nothing.[9]"

One thing I point out to some of the many hard secularists I've discussed it with is that, regardless of whether you're secular or Christian, the Bible has a lot of wisdom that works both ways, i.e. either God said he didn't want you doing something because he considered it unclean or a sin, or some really smart old timers realized that doing stuff like porking people in the ass, having sex with animals, 500 women a year, your neighbors wife or your kids, killing people, stealing, etc... wasn't very conducive to a functional society.

And don't think for a minute that I'm anywhere near the ideal Christian. Nooo siree bob, I've got a bale or two of weed, plenty of gallons of liquor and much reckless abandon under this belt from early days, and still some of the latter two occasionally to this day. I believe though, that at the judgement, the primary principles one will be judged upon are "Did you renounce/denounce the Lord and his Son during the material life", "Did you strive to live as best you could by his tenets" and "Did you shirk responsibility to others or cower in the face of tribulation"???

Now, I may have parts of that wrong or left out, and I sure as hell don't know as much minutae as some of the others here, but as I breath I can still get better at it and explore and learn from the instruction manual!

Bring on the Depression. Bring it the F*** ON! If digging ditches and eating beans for a few years is what it takes for me to see some worthless sacks of crap bankers and politicians living in sack cloth and being spat upon by my fellow Americans well... where's my shovel?!?!
