I just did a quick count: Out of the last 25 posts (before I put this one up), 12 were posted by Richard9151 pushing his JW beliefs on everyone else here on the forum. I guess if you can't persuade others by virtue of the content of your words, then just beat everyone into submission with the sheer volume of your long-winded postings, eh?

Seriously though, isn't taking up nearly 50% of the total postings on this forum just a bit.. pushy? Greedy? Proud? Vain? Selfish? Gosh, and here I was thinking that supposedly believing in Christianity was supposed to convince people to not behave that way. Silly me.

Well now Pastor Jack, the last few weeks I tune in to 4um Power Hour when I have time.

I thought I was the only one with a sense that 4um was trying to repentith this sinner.

He doesn't like it when people question him. He thinks he has all the answers, IMO. I know I dont have all the answers and neither does anyone else.

I dont have anything against him though.

I do believe in freedom of speech, and don't begrudge anyone coming here to say whatever they want to say. But when it gets to the point where one person is taking up nearly 50% of the total postings on this forum, I start to get concerned. It's like being in a debate where one person insists on utterly dominating the discussion, and making sure that their voice is louder than everyone else's, and pushing their views aggressively on others, and continually butting in repeatedly. It's actually a strategy that can work, provided nobody calls you on it...

Obama sends diplomat to Davos to quell trade outrage Day cautiously optimistic after talks with U.S. trade representative about stimulus KEVIN CARMICHAEL AND HEATHER SCOFFIELD February 2, 2009 OTTAWA -- Facing one of his first big diplomatic tests, U.S. President Barack Obama dispatched an official to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in an attempt to quell outrage from Canada and other countries over plans to make "buy American" a stipulation of the U.S.'s multibillion-dollar economic stimulus program. Peter Allgeier, the acting U.S. trade representative, used the annual gathering of the world's leading executives and policy-makers to assure his country's biggest trading partners that Mr. Obama understands concerns that the proposal could spark a trade war that would deepen the global recession. "I'm somewhat, let's say, optimistic at this point that they are sincere, as far as their administration goes in the United States," Canadian Trade Minister Stockwell Day said of his meeting with Mr. Allgeier. "They're looking for a way to deal with this." The goodwill that rose from all corners of the globe at the time of Mr. Obama's inauguration as the first black U.S. president receded because of legislation in Congress that would force officials to choose U.S. companies when allocating billions in planned infrastructure spending.

The ultimate effect of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools. - Herbert Spencer

Ye resident non-theists...

While some of the real religeous oriented folks can hose out the info, my main concern with that approach persisted with is that it often accomplishes the opposite of its intent.

Another believer I'd talked with a lot wrote a good missive on the fact that Christianity is NOT to be spread through fear and coersion, but as Paul [?] stated, by reason. Additionally, people will generally come to you first wanting to know why your so content or happy most, if not all, of the time.

Pascal's wager (the details, not the mere one sentence synopsis that makes it seem like a cop out) sums it up pretty well also.

From Wikipedia...

Pascal then asks the reader to analyze their position. If reason is truly corrupt and cannot be relied upon to decide the matter of God's existence, only a coin toss remains. In Pascal's assessment, placing a wager is unavoidable, and anyone who is incapable of trusting any evidence either for or against God's existence, must at least face the prospect that infinite happiness is at risk. The "infinite" expected value of believing is always greater than the expected value of not believing.

However, Pascal did not treat acceptance of the wager to be in itself sufficient for salvation. In the same note where the wager is found, Pascal goes on to explain that understanding his conclusion is just the impetus for faith, not faith itself:

“ Endeavour then to convince yourself, not by increase of proofs of God, but by the abatement of your passions. You would like to attain faith, and do not know the way; you would like to cure yourself of unbelief, and ask the remedy for it. Learn of those who have been bound like you, and who now stake all their possessions. These are people who know the way which you would follow, and who are cured of an ill of which you would be cured. Follow the way by which they began; by acting as if they believed, bless yourself with holy water, have Masses said, and so on; by a simple and natural process this will make you believe, and will dull you—will quiet your proudly critical intellect...

Now, what harm will befall you in taking this side? You will be faithful, honest, humble, grateful, generous, a sincere friend, truthful. Certainly you will not have those poisonous pleasures, glory and luxury; but will you not have others? I will tell you that you will thereby gain in this life, and that, at each step you take on this road, you will see so great certainty of gain, so much nothingness in what you risk, that you will at last recognize that you have wagered for something certain and infinite, for which you have given nothing.[9]"

One thing I point out to some of the many hard secularists I've discussed it with is that, regardless of whether you're secular or Christian, the Bible has a lot of wisdom that works both ways, i.e. either God said he didn't want you doing something because he considered it unclean or a sin, or some really smart old timers realized that doing stuff like porking people in the ass, having sex with animals, 500 women a year, your neighbors wife or your kids, killing people, stealing, etc... wasn't very conducive to a functional society.

And don't think for a minute that I'm anywhere near the ideal Christian. Nooo siree bob, I've got a bale or two of weed, plenty of gallons of liquor and much reckless abandon under this belt from early days, and still some of the latter two occasionally to this day. I believe though, that at the judgement, the primary principles one will be judged upon are "Did you renounce/denounce the Lord and his Son during the material life", "Did you strive to live as best you could by his tenets" and "Did you shirk responsibility to others or cower in the face of tribulation"???

Now, I may have parts of that wrong or left out, and I sure as hell don't know as much minutae as some of the others here, but as I breath I can still get better at it and explore and learn from the instruction manual!

Bring on the Depression. Bring it the F*** ON! If digging ditches and eating beans for a few years is what it takes for me to see some worthless sacks of crap bankers and politicians living in sack cloth and being spat upon by my fellow Americans well... where's my shovel?!?!

What you've said is quite sensible.

It's nice to see a well developed a sense of humor.

Nicely done posting, and now I'd like to answer what you just asked.

If I am asked "Do I renounce/denounce the Lord and his Son..." my answer is a clear, firm and unequivocal "Yes". Here's why. It's a point I've made many times before, and will make many times again:

IF you choose to believe in the concept of God as told by and promoted by Jews, then you are going to find yourself being manipulated BY Jews for the remainder of your days. If you kneel before the altar of Jews, then you are going to be led around by the nose BY Jews forever. Sorry, but I've seen too much of what Jews do, how they twist things around, how they manipulate, how they lie, and how they use psychology and emotional "logic" to get people to do what they want. And if that doesn't work, then they get loud and pushy and demanding and obnoxious until they DO get what they want. Either that, or they turn on you and try to destroy you. I'm perfectly happy to "live and let live" as far as they're concerned, but I do my best to avoid them when I can, because I've found from many experiences that dealing with them nearly always results in them profiting from me at my expense, and quite frankly I'm tired of it and I'm tired of them.

A "God" of the Jews is NO GOD AT ALL. And I will NEVER bow before it or them, EVER. Period. It's a sick and twisted lie designed to beat decent people into submission so they can be ripped off and abused, and I despise it, I abjure it, I renounce it and I will speak out against it for the rest of my days, unto my last breath on this Earth.

Once again, to paraphrase Ricardo Flores Magnon: "Capital, Authority, Clergy: These are the three heads of the hydra that guards the gates of this prison called Earth".

Gold and silver are REAL money, paper is but a promise.

IF you choose to believe in the concept of God as told by and promoted by Jews, then you are going to find yourself being manipulated BY Jews for the remainder of your days. If you kneel before the altar of Jews, then you are going to be led around by the nose BY Jews forever.

I'll probably be treading in murky water here, but I believe the problem in your take on it here lies in the assumption that the "Jews", i.e. Semitic followers of Yaweh/Jehovah/God, have the inside line of God following the proffering of his Son for the absolution of the sin of man. If anything, that would be a conceit on their part, as it's obvious that throughout the OT, the Jewish contingent of humanity repeatedly prove themselves to as obstinate to direct instruction by God as any others of the Human race.

That's part of what looks on the face of it to be the premise of the proffering of Jesus as a simple means of salvation to man. You can look at it as God finally getting fed up with dealing with complete morons with a self destructive streak. He's essentially thrown up his hands and said OK, you guys can't follow instructions, you're disobedient, and you'll persist in making your own life miserable merely to spite me, so I'm going to make it easy. Here's MY ONLY MANIFESTATION of myself in human form. Merely listen to him, try to follow in his footsteps, and acknowledge that I sent him for you. ALL you have to do is accept that he is your salvation and TRY to toe the line and reflect on it. And it's not just for you Jews, he's there for EVERYBODY!

Now, of course, not merely the Jews get to have a monopoly on screwing that up. Until the printed word came along, it was pretty much you as an illiterate individual having to take the word of some representative as to what to do, but even then, aside from all the authritarian control crap from any given church, you were doing OK if the message of Jesus got across.

Now days, (and apparently this is born out by us apparently "being out of the church age" within the last X centuries according to some), you merely need have the book and follow Part II and get history and wisdom from Part I. No one need be there to "interpret" if you can read, or are willing and have ears to hear in small groups.

I don't really get the line from some folks that seems to indicate that you can have accepted Jesus, felt repentance for stuff like grabbing Janes breast in the broom closet when you're 14, saved a bus full of kids, but "you ate shrimp and LIKED IT a multitude of times!, OFF to the bowels of hell with you!" That's crap, Satan busy leading the inquisative and yearning astray...

BTW, read your own tag line. The Lord is a STICKLER in the Bible for Honest Weights and Measures. Cheating people out of the sweat of their brow is nearly the same as taking at least a portion, if not all of their life (debt servitude for life), that which they spent earning or producing their wealth and possessions. Gold and Silver and other hard portable instruments are the Honest Weights and Measures of commerce and I doubt seriously that the corruptors of that system (whomever they are in part or whole) have hope of a place in his Kingdom if unrepentant...

Bring on the Depression. Bring it the F*** ON! If digging ditches and eating beans for a few years is what it takes for me to see some worthless sacks of crap bankers and politicians living in sack cloth and being spat upon by my fellow Americans well... where's my shovel?!?!
