Free speech means that I have a right to express or spew thoughts and words of preference, love, hate, or anything with which another may disagree. That said, the rules or policies of this forum, which is my private property (see this forum's Mission Statement), are that members can exercise free speech as long as they (1) do not make a specific threat against an identifiable person or target, (2) earnestly debate or discuss the relevant issues that are part and parcel of this forum's reason-to-be.

First, I should clarify that Rule #1 includes fellow posters. As you all know, I have a very liberal and tolerant free speech policy here. There is no rule against ad hominems or profanity. However, I have noticed of late a marked increase of both to the point where it's become most unsavory and is setting a tone that, I feel, is beneath us as reasonable and mature adults. Other than the two specified rules to which I expect adherance, no one's speech is constrained, so I'm requesting that you please employ self restraint.

You know who you are. ;) Subscribe to *4um Admin News*

self restraint

That standard might be too high for one or two of us...

As Gentlemen of the first order, I am sure all of our friends here will read and heed.

This Country and its people are in great distress, which should be of our paramount interest, not this endless internecine battling among ourselves.

Profanity is never required to eviscerate the commentary of a drooling, slack jawed, perfidous, malignant, malefactorious, microencephalic, duplicitous, squirrel brained, lizard breathed, slimewad, of a no good back shooting yellow dog having miniscule intellect and discernment with morals that would make a Harlot blush.

I'm sorry. I have a tendency to get a little ticked off and use words I shouldnt when posting on certain JBT topics. So, if I am one of those mentioned, I apologize. If I'm not, I'll still try to do better.

Now now, no worries, don't despair. It's all a question of semantics. For example, while it is not appropriate to say to any particular annoying dipwad on this forum something like "I am going to take you and feed you feet first into a wood-chipping machine, then take your pulverized remains and feed them to wild pigs, then pee on the pig droppings" you CAN say "Gosh, it would be a darn shame if some deranged psychopath were to take you and feed you feet first into a wood-chipping machine, then take your pulverized remains and feed them to wild pigs, then pee on the pig droppings. Would just break my heart." See how that works? Just a question of how you phrase it, that's all. Easy as pie.

Methinks some of the more egregious malefactors have little to no interest in America or its people. If they can keep the more passionate of us riled up, discussion and insight is lost. F4 is a sort of a microcosm in this regard.

Personally, I'm not opposed to any language, so long as it is used dynamically and within reasonable constraints. Occasionally, a "BAC" appears, needing verbal nuking; but that seems to be a rare event. Add Goldi, but she's on the other side of the cosmos.

Hmmm, I'd nearly forgotten Goldi. A good sign, I guess.

But, Chris, when you ask anyone to tone it down, it's got to be way out of hand, thus I trust your judgment. I think that stand would easily pass the forum consensus.

Thanks. I've always preferred it over the more plebeian "pinhead" as being a trifle more cutting. Of course the distinction is often lost on pinheads, after all they are pinheads.

However, I can't help thinking I left out an adjective or two. :-)
